The page is now in my hands...greg wrote:According to Jim Shooter, the first VALIANT universe story written was Magnus #0.
The first time Magnus appears in the story of Magnus #0 is...
...and the piece of art that I just won is...
So excited!

The face that is shown on this page looks like it is glued on.
No.
It's the original face.
The version that was printed in the book was the glued on face... it was included with the page as a loose piece.
What you're seeing here is the original face that didn't make it to print.

That is a great page Greg, congrats. I am glad it has gone to a good home also.
And by the way, Jazz.

Greg - I like the original face much better. Why would he flinch? He's Magnus, robot fighter.
I hope to get mine soon.

Great page indeed, the original face is much better. Wonder why they didn't publish it with that one in the first place.

Awesome page, Greg; congrats

Cool bit of in-depth V1 knowledge there, too; so thanks for that, also

That was not only a positive bonus for you, but also historically it is great that the new face had not been lost (though the original is better)

I asked Bob Layton by email why the face was changed... his reply:lorddunlow wrote:Agreed. Original face was much better.nycjadie wrote:Greg - I like the original face much better. Why would he flinch? He's Magnus, robot fighter.
Well, there you go.Bob Layton wrote:It was changed because the original expression was not dramatic enough.

The 1st appearance Shadowman/Jack panel is all original art. It would be interesting to find out the situation behind it as well, how it came about, and who did what on the page.

I normally don't post/advertise the art I've picked up over the last 15 years or so. A couple of my issue 1 Shadowman pages (and some others) are in the Art forum, which by the way could use some more posting from folks. The art forum that is.

Ah, I didn't see your post, because image hosting site is blocked at work and it wasn't described.
Will you consider looking behind the patch? See if he was drawn on the original version of the panel too.

Re: MRF #12 Original Art Cover (auction)
I'll pass. I haven't touched it other than to put it in an art album. Its not a photo stat or patch, its a section of original art, penciled and inked, and attached to the bottom 1/4 of the page. I don't much feel like risking one of the most important pages of Valiant art in existence to see whats underneath and frankly don't care. It can remain a mystery. Its what is drawn on it that makes it so valuable. Sorry to disappoint.
