Thanks, yes, your list clearly shows I was lucky. Congrats to nycjadie also.jay wrote:Magnus, it certainly looks like your Magnus 0, page 18 was the steal of the auction, just in comparison to the other prices paid.

Re: MRF #12 Original Art Cover (auction)
Great thread.
Only a few pieces of original art I am interested in.
So glad that a lot ended up with board members.
Glad to see the com unity helping each other identifying the cove art as a repo.

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Thanks for correcting their listings.
Since you mentioned it,
does anybody have the auction results from the Harbinger 1 pages?
Or any of Lapham's covers or interiors that sold on ebay?
I'd love to know what they went for a few years ago.

I was actually willing to go higher on the Magnus 0 splash.
My wallet (and my wife) are very happy that I didn't have to.

Feeling left out, I bought this page today: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291089883980" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Harbinger #13 p 6 by Lapham. It doesn't compare to the key pages from yesterday's auctions but it's a Lapham Harbinger page so I am happy.

I found this thread too, where Dave was looking for 12K for the complete book in 2006. Looks like the individual pages sold for about $12,700 in 2008. Wow!

Was 2006 the first time he sold any of his Harbinger pages?

Re: MRF #12 Original Art Cover (auction)
Yes, around that time, maybe a little before, he sold the majority of them. Prior to that only a few had leaked out. Most were sold in private transactions through Renee, his art broker. I believe I probably covered a down payment on his house or put a kid through a year or two of college. What was left over from the picked over art list came out on ebay afterwards. The harbinger 1 pages were maintained as a set and he wouldn't break them up until they didn't sell and eventually were divided out on ebay.
That post and list in the link was some time after much had been purchased from him in private.

Re: MRF #12 Original Art Cover (auction)
I ended up with about 25 or so pages from #2-#10 before he started doing the auctions and was pretty broke (at least for art money) when he did sold the #1 pages. Looking back, i probably would have moved whatever i had to to get every one of those.

Re: MRF #12 Original Art Cover (auction)
So this is just a feeler for those of you out there that have contacted Sparkle City about the Magnus 12 covers. After they were taken down I e-mailed them about what they planned to do with the covers. I received an e-mail saying to call the store manager Ross this past Tuesday, which I did. I called and Ross explained to me that there were several people asking about the covers and there were some high offers. He told me the top offer and asked if I would offer more. I offered around my high limit and Ross explained to me that he would call me back after he spoke with the owner of Sparkle City. Ross assured me that he wanted these to go to a collector and that he was not shopping prices....I have a hard time trusting people I can't look in the eye. This all took place yesterday and today I received a call from Ross, that I missed. So I was just wondering if other members here were getting this same run around and Sparkle city was trying to create some kind of competition between us all to get top $$. From his message, I assume he is going to tell me someone went over my price and is looking for a counter offer. There is some competition for us all to get cool valiant stuff, I realize that. I just don't want to have Sparkle city, or any other dealer to have us fighting against each other to get this stuff and in turn inflating the prices.

Well apparently, from what Sparkle City tells me, Gonzalo is sending them COA's that they are actual covers that were done for Valiant during the period but not the final production covers. Which goes along with what was told to Dholden when he e-mailed him
Not the production covers but prelims?

Interesting. The one was extremely close to the original. If they are prelims, that would make them more valuable.

Although prelims don't exactly fall into this category, and are pretty damn cool.
