I think a few folks here are familiar with that line. I think they had a loose connection with Defiant so some folks made the leap.

What was their best stuff and who were the prominent creators for that line?

IMO one of the WORST of the Dead Universes. My 6 year old could draw better.

The only 'crossover' that I am aware of is a few of the Defiant characters showing up in a centerfold drawing of no importance. If there was any further connection (or proposed), I would like to learn about it. NOT that I would pick these books up... terrible art.

Again... IMO.

I was a retailer back during those days and Triumphant sold surprisingly well. I can't say I ever read any of them so I have no idea what the writing is like. But I agree with Knightt about the art.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

All the issues were 'numbered' on the top of the book. I think that this was to try and make it a collectible. Personally, I used this as a 'they printed HOW many copies of this crap ?'

Thanks for the info, Some of the cover art that I've seen for Chromium Man looked interesting , but I'll take your word on the interior art. Anymore Info on the artists and writers involved with this company would be interesting. Personally I'm working on filling in my Ultraverse collection at this time.

I was actually a fan of The Chromium Man. The artist was Adam Pollina and his work was very good. Jim Shooter eventually got him to come to Defiant and pencil Charlemagne. He then went on to pencil X-Force for Marvel for quite a while. I collected all of the books put out by Triumphant. Some were bad, some were OK, but The Chromium Man was really good when Adam was on it.

I could just never get past the bad art, Pollina being the exception but still his art was pretty raw.

There were a few Defiant 'posters' in the middle of a few of the Triumphant issues which were of a Defiant character.

Anyone have a grasp on which issues had these ? That way, a Defiant completionist go snag these for pennies on the dollar I am sure. I have a couple and may have stashed them with my Defiant books but have made no concerted effort to hunt them down.

Technique ? Yer pretty saavy on this... what say you ?

I know you got a handful of those for me. I kind of regret sending them to you now, but I didn't know your feelings toward Triumphant at the time. I wish I would have sent something you could have used/enjoyed a lot more. I'll make it up to you sometime. :thumb:

Yeah, his art was raw, and did get better with time..... but for some reason I felt that his style fit that book rather well. I recently pulled out some old Triumpant books, and you are correct.... the art is pretty horrid.

OK, so I am not mad. whew....

Now Pollina's work on Charlemagne was second only to Lapham's work on Warriors of Plasm.

Pollina's style worked incredibly well for me on Charlemagne as did the inks and paints.

I enjoyed his work on X-Force as well. Quality stuff.

I think we can all agree Triumphant lacked a bit in the art department, but storywise, I think at least some of their books were pretty good. Try reading this webpage synopis of the Chromium Man and tell me it doesn't intrigue you enough to want to read the books:

By the way, I am new to the forum as you can tell.... but I wanted to say that this is a great place, and I love the info and the links that you post, helping me to find out more about the comics I love.

I was really into many different universes back in the day. I really miss Valiant, Defiant, Triumphant, and others (like Malibu's Rune, and the Continuity books).

Hey, guys. Just picked something up today I thought some of you may like.

I found a copy of the signed Riot Gear #1 ashcan. It's signed by Fred Harper, Erin Shefferman, and another person I can't make out (Christina Idone, possibly). It includes the photo print of another Harper piece. Also, it has an Advance Comics card of Riot Gear #1 and a copy of the Riot Gear sketchbook. If you're interested in numbers, the book is #1495 and the sketchbook is 847.

PM me with any offers.
