Re-Reading: X-O Manowar #41

Post by xoken »

I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do

For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.

Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

I missed a few days recently, the re-reading thread just completly slipped my mind. I'll be back on track from now on.

The name of the story says it all - Aftermath. Aftermath of Wolfbridge and of Randy generally it seems. With some little bits of action thrown in.

Xoken you've got the wrong issue # up.

Aric's suffering from nuclear poisoning, so what does he do? He flies around with no pupils in his eyes (where did they go?) and just happens to stumble upon a series of Neo-Nazi he proceeds to beat the crap out of (apparently they must be on every street corner in the country he's in).

The art is horrible. The splash page with Randy and what-his-name looking at Aric and the f-ed up X-O on the ground is one of the worst panels I've ever seen (the deformities on Randy are awful).

The ending is just silly. Randy tells Aric she doesn't love him so he puts on the X-O armor and flies away with his mouth open (looks like he's screaming, I guess it's either that or clinched teeth  )

Just silly, stupid stuff.

Barely a 4.

The cover art is not bad, but the interior art is horrible, Aric’s facial expressions are wildly exaggerated along with most of the action sequences and I just don't particularly care for that type of art. The story was mediocre and on the borderline of being downright ridiculous in spots.

I just re-read X-O Manowar from beginning to #42 (in one half-day sitting).

I can tell immediately that this is where X-O Manowar jumps the shark,
and I don't even know what happens in #43 to #68 yet.
#41 is bad.

Sadly, #42 is worse.
