Re-Reading: X-O Manowar #24
I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do
For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.
Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

Lots of talking and whining. It just seems anti-climatic after last issue to have 22 pages of Aric and Randy exchanging sob stories. And the bar fight was just silly, definately the cheeziest thing in the series so far (even cheezier than the Elvis cameo in 0).
There are a couple of amusing things here. Even in the their brooding, there is some nice interplay between Aric and Randy (I loved how she was so happy to see him and then remembered she had to show him how bad she f-ed up the armor) and the exchange about why Aric payed the bar guys for their injuries was funny.
But unfortunately it's still just a 6.

One of the best XO covers ever. A decent story that doesn't pretend to be more than an interlude. Some silliness but all and all a nice read. I like honesty.

Really? I think the idea is decent and the execution is pretty poor. I have to say though I'm a fan of covers that convey an idea or a part of they story. We seem to be getting lots of angry close up covers these days...magnusr wrote:One of the best XO covers ever. A decent story that doesn't pretend to be more than an interlude. The cover's actually a time honored comic cliche. You'll actually find a similar extreme close-up head shot of Superman on the cover of the Superman: Man of Steel issue that he first popped up in after his death. It's basically a way of letting the reader know that the character's back, though I guess in this case they just assume the readers were idiots and put "He's back!" in a blurb on the coverxoken wrote:Really? I'm not real crazy about the cover either. The helmet on the armor's second incarnation is awful looking and the color just looks washed out. It looks they used colored pencils on it.

Yeah, the blurb was a pity.Todd Luck wrote:I guess in this case they just assume the readers were idiots and put "He's back!" in a blurb on the cover![]()
It's a different technique (full size painting on pencils), so it's bound to look different.the color just looks washed out.
