I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do
For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.
Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

xoken, you've got the wrong cover shown.
Here we have a standard super-hero comic. Well crafted and nicely drawn with a great cover. We also get the promise that some new intelligent study of Solar might come in the next issue. It sure didn't in this issue.

Another installment in "Valiant...where good writers go to do bad stories." This time it's Dan Jurgens whose writing on Superman I enjoyed so much that I endured years of buying the other two (or three) Superman titles (which usually sucked) just to just read his stuff (all the titles were connected at the time). If Jurgens wrote Superman like he did Solar he could've saved me a hell of a lot of money
First of all, when Jurgens left JLA shortly before he did this issue, one of his final plotlines began in alternate reality were a colder, more brutal version of the JLA took over the world and only Batman (the human non-member) is a disenting voice. Yes, Jurgans was basically swiping Squadren Supreme but it worked. We discovered that the world was really created by a villian using a dream of Ray Palmer's.
So guess what Jurgen's first plotline in Solar happens to be? Christ, I just wish he'ld kept the whole idea of it being created by a dreaming mind. That would've actually worked with Solar. Unfortunately what we'll get in a few issues is far, far worse.
And unfortunately Flashpoint (the dumbest team name ever) is no Squadron Supreme or JLA. They're one of the painfully generic teams I've ever seen. They're the cliches of the 90's at their worst. They're so silly it's hard not to chuckle at them. The attempts at witty super hero banter are painful to read at times.
And very little happens in this issue. We set up our heroes and get Flashpoint to the point were they'll fight Solar next issue and that's about it.
Still, when the Sentinel isn't spouting out bad superhero banter, he can be a tolerable human anchor for the story. Jurgan's art is good but a bit rushed (notice the appearing, disappearing undergarment benneth Donna's bathrobe)
A 6.
And just imagine this is the good part of the story
