Re-Reading: Solar #26
I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do
For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.
Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

Re: Re-Reading: Solar #26
Almost like a fill-in issue. A new theme in the exploration of humanity. Kind of funny that you think it will end with opposition to Solar and it doesn't. Still just a decent issue, not more.

In the post-Shooter VH-1 tradition it's a God awful fill-in issue!
This issue: The story with a thousand cliches!
First freaking page we have Gayle wanting them to be normal by taking a plane instead of teleporting there. When the hell did she ever want them to be "normal" like that? She didn't want every individual object in her house teleported across the country (I wouldn't either) but she's never objected to practical uses of Solar's powers in general before. But after they miss the plane she gets over it.
Then we end up with a plot I just had read a few monthes ago in a Superman annual when this issue was released
. They really leave no cliche unturned. The hick town with a secret. The mean sherriff who wants to protect it from outsiders. The one disinfranchised town person who seeks the help of the outsider. The townspeople gather in an angry mob when they discover outsiders are "snooping around." I got to give them credit for putting an entire bad movie's worth of cliches in only 22 pages.
And we have Gayle taking Lois lane's role of snooping around and getting kidnapped
. Phil tells her to go to the local diner to find information?!? She goes to the library to check the records and she happens to be able to sneak in at night because a window is left open?!?
I don't where this story takes place but it can't be the Valiant Universe....
And I won't even mention the use of spider alien technology to make factory machines to work
.
There is a little bit of life here. The idea of following a lone spider alien is interesting as was the relationship with his wife/victim. But not nearly enough to save this plot.
A 5.
