Complete VH1 Run Now Being Auctioned, GOLDS, VVSS, PREMIUMS

Post by riptide_soccer »

Well guys...I should have listened to you.

As many of you know, last week I offered a complete VH1 set on Ebay. The auction ended with a winning bid of $2,000.00. I was somewhat disappointed at the outcome, particularly with all of the emails I was receiving about ending the auction early, but what the heck, it was $2K.

Anyways, the buyer has emailed me as of this past Sunday and stated that due to familial issues, he will be unable to complete the transaction(probably his wife...lol). He did, however, offer to pay my listing fee and my Ebay fee at auction end, so as far as that goes, I'm OK.

However, I still have a complete set of VH1's to get rid of. I'm thinking that I am going to break the set apart as some of you suggested on the boards last week. I've just got to figure out how to do it. Also, I am going to offer it to the board members first...not Ebay. So I need some suggestions as to how to do this. Do I accept PM's from everyone??? Do I go by Greg's price guide for each book??? Do I increase prices on certain premiums due to their scarcity and lack of monitored Ebay sales?? The last Eternal Warrior VVSS sold per Greg's guide was in 2004!!! Then, it brought $130+...so since there have not been many sold over the last year that were documented, does this mean that the price of that particular book should be increased???

Thus, I need suggestions from the board. How would you guys handle something this big? I don't want to sit here and list and price everything on the boards. Do I use Greg's price guide??? I need help guys...any suggestions???

I would just list the each title set and then premiems seperately. Start with about half the price guide and allow some bidding for a period of time. Maybe due a couple every couple days and have the bidding be a day long or something. Whatever you want but some items are more than the guide on this board, some are less so a PM type bidding usually works ok IMO.
I do chicken right!

I would do a combo.

Things like the Cear, Unity Red, EW 27 VVSS you should list on ebay. They are quite volitile in price.

Big dollar sets you should auction through pms here. Things like Harbinger Pink-41, Magnus, Solar, Rai, etc

I would do PM auctions for the accliam books because you're not really going to get any new bidders by going to ebay.

The golds I would sell with fixed prices on the boards, according to guide or a little less.

The small dollar sets should go on ebay and start at $9.99 or so. Things like HARD Corps, Dr. Mirage, Armorines. They are good reading and have fans but aren't scare enough to be worth much.

Good luck

Sorry to hear things didn't work out for you on this one, I thought it was all a done deal. What is with these people who make bids and can't follow up on them, that's pretty lame.

That's pathetic. Forcing real buyers to pay more because you can't or aren't willing to commit to a financial contract you've agreed too.

I would suggest an alternative route to xoken, sell the runs and all the golds broken down on ebay. The harder to find VVSS's; sell here, auction style to the board members. You'll get just as much for these issues because we're the bulk of the bidders on ebay and you'd be rewarding this community by giving us a chance to own the books we need to complete the collection.

I suggest some kind of auction format. For some items you will not be able to find the right fix price. Still, you need to minimise your work. You could list the lots you are selling and then have everyone submit their bids for the lots. You could then either have the bidding go on until there's been one day since last posted bid, or you could accept only one bid per person and lot, but sell it for the second highest bid. Either way you will need a spreadsheet and lots of patience to keep track of everything.
Do I accept PM's from everyone???
In some organised way, like fixed lots, so you don't have to figure out how to break up things back and forth.
Do I go by Greg's price guide for each book??? Do I increase prices on certain premiums due to their scarcity and lack of monitored Ebay sales??
I strongly suggest auction format. Possibly with minimum bids and BINs.
The last Eternal Warrior VVSS sold per Greg's guide was in 2004!!! Then, it brought $130+...so since there have not been many sold over the last year that were documented, does this mean that the price of that particular book should be increased???
Maybe, but not necessarily. If most who want it has it, it could even go down (probably not this one, it has been rather stable).

Any way, good luck!

/Magnus

PS, there are some item I will bid on.

Haha, I'll be back from boot camp in about 5 months, after making $1000+ a month, and a cool $8500 signing bonus.

No, nothing has been sold yet.

I am getting a lot of responses, both on the board, and PM's. I will admit that I have also received emails to buy them all. I am still trying to sort it all out and decide what I'm going to do. I promise you that I will have a decision on how I am going to handle this either later tonight or no later than tomorrow.

For now, I've got some work to get done on the computer for my job. I'll be back on shortly....

I have decided to sell the entire lot together. I will agree to send the boxes via media mail instead of Priority Mail if the winner wishes to do so. This will substantially decrease the shipping cost for the winner. All bids should be presented to me via PM. All bidders will be kept confidential. The bidding will end when the high bid has not been upset within a 24 hour period. I will obviously keep everyone informed.

I cannot hold the books until after the new year for payment. One board member has made me an extremely kind offer of $2,500, but payment can not be made by the board member until after the new year. While I was extremely tempted by the offer, I have decided that I need to move these books now. I have other things going on...family, work, and the fact that I am trying to put some auctions together for Ebay before Christmas. This adds up to 18 hour days, and I can't keep running on that schedule for long.

I have had two board members PM me an offer of $2,000. One member has asked that I split the shipping cost, while the other member has stated $2,000 plus shipping. Obviously, the last offer takes precedent as I don't have to pay shipping cost.

Thus, the bid stands at $2,000 plus shipping. Going once.....!!!
