VH-3 Resources

Post by Byrneout »

I've only barely scratched the surface when it comes to researching VH-3, the failed relaunch of the Acclaim/Valiant comics. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good resources for information about VH-3, including planned series, plot synopsis, promo art, etc.

I've found a little bit so far on both VH-3 Bloodshot and VH-3 Magnus, but that's been about it.

Thanks!

I would buy anything about these characters, sadly.

I know you can find the plot, script, and most of the pencils for the unpublished issues of Unity 2000 around online.

As for the planned James Perham relaunch (VH-3) featuring Bloodshot, Dr. Mirage, and Magnus, I think BloodofHeroes knows the most about those. Enlighten us Ant'ny! :D

I can't share too much (if you can't keep secrets, nobody'll tell you anything), but lemme dig out some of the original artwork for the unpublished DR. MIRAGE project (by Steven Butler) and see if someone would host scans.

And this was *almost* a non-Valiant treatment of Solar, Man of the Atom, featuring some great artwork by Pat Quinn (who was supposed to do Bloodshot, V3).

What do you know about VH 3 Magnus?

IOf you can send me copies of the pencils I could ink them. Then we could get someone to color them. Just to see it finished.

That, with a bit of tinkering, it might yet come out under a different title. I'm sworn to secrecy, but I had an extensive discussion with the author about it. Tell you what--if it comes out, then I'll mention it and the differences here, okay?

It's my wrestler idea, isn't it? lol.

I don't like that these projects can be tinkered to come out under a different name. It means that they're not what they're pretending to be (in this case Magnus).

I hope the new graphic novels are faitful to the original concept.

Huh? Any Solar plot could become, say, a Captain Atom story. People have already commented on the similarities between MRF and THE MATRIX. It's a business. I could take nearly any of your plots and use it for a different hero. If the writer can make money off his intellectual capital, why shouldn't he do so?

You're confusing plots with concept.

A baby is rocketed from a planet just before it explodes and lands in a rural American town where he's found by a farming couple who raise him as their own.

The baby grows up to become Superman.

That's the concept.

A baby is left in the care of a robot who raises the baby to become a robot fighter.

The baby grows up to become Magnus.

That's the concept.

----------------------

Superman, in his guise of Clark Kent, travels to eastern Europe where he meets Lex Luthor, an up-and-coming scientist determined to rule the world.

Superman and Luthor do battle atop a mountain peak, at the end of which Luthor falls down the cliff to an apparent death.

That's the plot for a Superman adventure.

Magnus travels to Japan where he meets Rai, the Spirit Guardian of Japan and protector of all.

Magnus is there under false pretences, told that Godmother, the artificial intelligence that controls Japan, has subjugated the human population.

This leads Magnus and Rai into doing battle with Rai's son life hanging in the balance.

That's the plot for a Magnus story.

--------------------------------------

Now look at VH 1 Mirage and VH 3 Mirage:

VH 1:

Dr. Hwen Mirage and his wife Carmen are paranormal investigators. The two arrive on an ancient temple where they find all the priests dead.

They are confronted by Master Darque, a powerful necromancer who absorbs Mirage into his body, effectively killing him.

To both Darque's and Carmen's surprise, however, Hwen comes back into the world of the living as a wraith empowered by the same energies that give Darque his powers.

Driven by the love he feels for his wife, Mirage's soul returned to the physical world.

----------

VH 3:

Dr. Hwen Mirage is a mystic that finds himself confronted by his adversary Master Darque.

Mirage apparently dies in battle with Darque, leaving Carmen behind to figure out what's happened to her husband.

Carmen discovers that his husband is an extremely powerful mystic, a sorcerer supreme even.

Eventually Mirage returns to life, to do battle with Darque once more... or whatever.

Those are the two different concepts for the two different Dr. Mirage stories.

The VH 3 concept could very well have applied to Dr. Strange, his assistant (don't remember her name) and Dormammu.

Nope, not at all. I say what I mean and I mean what I say.

With some tweaking, the V3 MRF plot could be a tale with different characters; just as Wildstorm's MR. MAJESTIC plots could easily become Superman plots. And the way Solar plots could become Captain Atom plots.

The concept for MRF V-1, V-2 and V-3 is:

Magnus fights robots.
The plotlines for each series vary dramatically. I was talking plot the whole time.

Those Solar panels were something else entirely. I was highly impressed!

Of course, now I'm depressed that we will probably never see this - thanks for the link though, BoH!

Anytime. Pat Quinn is currently drawing the Phantom. He's too good to not have a gig, I think.

Dude, that's like saying "Superman's the guy that wears his underwear over his pants".

You're super over simplifying things.

Magnus is not just the guy that fights robots.

He's the guy that was raised by a robot to fight robots.
