"Tales of th Shadowman" gets a 10/10 and my last convo with Jim Shooter
I had the privilege of meeting Jim Shooter in April of this year in New Jersey. He had a stern yet soft-spoken demeanor that carried the mystique of a seasoned writer. When I introduced myself as AJ Ampadu, an up-and-coming writer at Valiant/Alien Books, his face lit up. He was genuinely excited about the opportunity to share his experience and knowledge with me. I was deeply honored to speak with him. He shared his story, wisdom, and experience, offering advice and encouragement to keep pushing forward on my creative journey. I never imagined that would be our last conversation, but now, Jim has moved on from this earthly plane. Thank you, Jim, for writing the comics that inspired my childhood and for sharing your wisdom with me. I promise to carry it close to my heart and pour myself into my work, never forgetting that every moment is sacred. Your legacy and inspiration will live on forever.
Thanks, Jim
Which brings me to my next topic.
I began my journey with Valiant/Alien Books nearly two years ago, and it's been one incredible ride. I never know where I'll go next, but I'm forever grateful for the chance to write stories for characters I fell in love with as a teenager. "Tales of the Shadowman" has been a love letter to the world of Voodoo, supernatural horror, and, of course, Shadowman. Over the past year, I've been crafting a 12-issue storyline that I hope will inspire both longtime fans and newcomers. A huge shout-out to the team at Alien Books, including my former editor Lysa Hawkins, as well as Clara, Ron, Martin, and, of course, Sergio for their amazing art. We've got a lot coming soon; everything we're working on is being carefully planned, and I can promise you, it's going to be awesome. Stay tuned and stay Valiant!
