The Darques Soulside #1

Post by Dallow Spicer1 »

Pleasantly surprised by this book. FVL on writing duties and Sebastian Cabral doing a great job on the art.

We get reacquainted with the Darque twins with a useful recap on their origin. Nicodemo and Sandria are currently trapped in the Soulside. Nicodemo seemingly satisfied wort his existence there until Sandria is kidnapped by the clans of Jinn and he’s blackmailed into finding and returning a magical dagger in order to secure her release.

Nicodemo must travel to the ‘insanitarium’ to obtain the dagger, where he himself is subdued and locked away with his lips sewn up :o The issue ends with him using a spell to escape just before he has his skin stripped from his body by his weird captures!

4/5 - :thumb: good story and excellent art. Hopefully they stick the landing in the concluding issue (I think it’s a 2 parter)

This was pretty good! Enjoyed the story and dialogue by FVL, and the art was generally quite good too (an extremely minor nitpick was that I thought Darques top hat looked a bit off much of the time - speaking from personal experience, I find hats can be tricky to draw at times. It’s very easy to get their proportions wrong in relation to the head of the character)

Story felt surreal in a Lovecraftian/Mignola kind of way, which I like very much. Interesting to think of Darque being lulled into complacency by this place in soulside.

Even with the recaps, I feel like I’ve missed a story somewhere along the way though… I can’t recall where it was written that they both became trapped in Solomon’s coin?
I like to draw stuff... http://grendeljd.deviantart.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My wife likes to draw stuff too, and she is better than me! [I'm very proud of her]... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sara-Dec ... ref=stream" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
