Eternal Warriors: Last Ride of the Immortals #1

I’ll say this up front, I’m not a fan of FVL so my expectations weren’t too high for this going in.

Overall it was fine, especially compared to some of the other poor releases by Alien recently. Gilad, Armstrong, Ivar and Vexanna (aka War Monger who I totally forgot is the sister of the 3 immortal brothers), find themselves in the Wild West on the hunt for 3 men who match the description of Gilad, Armstrong and Ivar! Presumably it’s some sort of time wimey thing.

Nice throwback to early VEI for Gilad’s clothing in ‘current time’ with the bullets on his sleeve (which of course is based in VH1).

Weird continuity thing whereby Gilad wasn’t aware that Vexana (his sister) was still alive although he battled against her as part of Unity?. It’s been that long since I’ve read those books I couldn’t remember.

Sandria Darque makes an appearance at the end of the book, again I can’t remember if she’s been in VEI before but I do think the Darque brother and sister and good characters so glad to have them back. The issue ends with Ivar falling under one of Sandria’s spells.

Mostly as set up issue, let’s see what the second and concluding part gives us next month. Lots of FVL fans on the board so I assume you’ll lap this up.

Art was solid from Alvaro Papagiani.

There’s a sneak peek of Darque’s Soulside which looks interesting.

3/5 - okay read

The presence of the Darque in several of the Alien books cobbled together with the premise of Resurgence (Dr. Silk offers to make people immortal) leads me to conclude that things are leading to a conflict between Darque (who needs to absorb the necromantic energy released upon the moment a living being dies to extend his life) and Silk.

That should be interesting.

Yeah the recent Rai 2 parter ‘Book of the Darque’ started off as a Darque v Father showdown but descended into a boring ‘everyone shows up for no apparent reason’ mess. Dr Silk popped up as well and was apparently the instigator of the whole magic v technology (Howling) war. So yes I think you’re right :thumb:

Enjoyed this one. Like the continuity nods to Unity. I’d suggest reading Unity #22 for context to War Monger’s background (which itself is also a very good issue).

Looking forward to Resurgence!
