MST3K Comics (Acclaim Comics)

Post by ManofTheAtom »

Do any of you remember seeing an advertisement for MST3K comic books from Acclaim Comics printed in an issue of Previews, Diamond's catalog?

It had the silhouette outlines of the crew of the Satellite of Love watching an issue of Gold Key's Magnus, Robot Fighter.

I would buy anything about these characters, sadly.

That looked like a blast, wonder how far they got and whatever became of the unpublished pages?

Go for it. Show the advertisement from the other thread around there.

Couldn't hurt to ask Mike or Kevin, but now that I think about it this seems like a question for Joel. I believe he owns the rights and would have been the one most likely to know about a licensing deal for a comic.

Also could try whoever was the editor in chief of Acclaim at the time that ad came out. Do you know who that would be? Was it Fabian N. at that point?

Yeah, it was Nicieza, but it would be interesting to get the story from the MST3K side.

Thanks! Just tweeted at Fabian with the image, and tagged MST3K official. I'll reply and tag Joel as well.

Not sure if you guys had seen this from the official MST3K faq:

Q: I also remember some talk about an MST3K comic book. What's the deal on that?

A: There was some discussion of an MST3K "graphic novel" from Acclaim that would have Mike and the bots riffing on old Gold Key and Dell comics. It should be noted, however, that it always looked unlikely that MST3K's writers would actually take part in writing the comic book. Unfortunately, in a repeat of the Voyager situation, Acclaim announced a cutback in its comics production, and one of the casualties is the MST3K comic. At one point, Acclaim officials said they were considering putting the comic on Acclaim's website, but it never happened.

I searched Twitter for @FabianNicieza MST3K and found this thread from 2019.
