Report "Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth" on Kickstarter
Hey guys and gals,
I have reached the point where I do not believe DMG intends to fulfill the Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth Kickstarter. This is not a case of a small-time creator running into hardship and being unable to fulfill their commitments. This is a company that distributes major motion pictures in China, and whose owner is a multi-millionaire. I believe they have simply chosen not to fulfill this Kickstarter...because they don't have to.
I don't know that we can do anything to get this rectified, but we should certainly try.
I urge everyone to start officially reporting this project to Kickstarter. At the bottom of the project's campaign page you can find a link to "Report this project to Kickstarter". Please go do it. Don't delay. Maybe if we all do it in short succession it will move the needle.
Here's the link. (Scroll down to the bottom of the "Campaign" page and click "Report this project to Kickstarter", then fill out the short form. It takes less than a minute!) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/va ... escription

Done.
my comment was something like:
companies owned by multi-billion dollar corporations shouldn't be allowed to basturdize Kickstarter into a legal means of theft.
*I misspelled the B word here so it wouldn't get squee'd

Re: Report "Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth" on Kickstarter
Reported, citing the 8 month overdue fulfilment, no comms for 4 months, and concerns re: interest given them licensing out their IP.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Here's Alien Books' contact e-mail: info@alienbooks.com
Might help to write them and ask them to apply some pressure from their side. Tell them what happened, how you feel about Valiant, and how it might affect your response when Alien's Valiant stuff starts coming out.

They definitely respond. They're doing a nice job of being understanding of my current view of Valiant while still advertising how great it's gonna be.
I've reminded them that working with DMG is sharing the bed with a snake, and to not lose their company... because Dan Mintz is already thinking about how he's gonna eat THEIR lunch
(I wonder if it's Dani W having to answer the Valiant emails at Alien. I hope not. I feel like she's dealt with enough of DMGs fallout.)

I hope not. None of this is the fault of any of the people we know and like at (or formerly at) Valiant. I hate raising a fuss but at this point I think it may be the only way to get some action. And really, if this thing goes unfulfilled it's just going to poison the well for Alien, so better for everyone involved to get it taken care of.slack wrote: Tue Jul 25, 2023 7:24 pm (I wonder if it's Dani W having to answer the Valiant emails at Alien. I am an attorney and am thinking about suing them. I need to send a demand letter and need an email for a Valiant employee and Dan Mintz. If someone would DM me privately, that would be great. I haven’t litigated a class action, but that might be a possibility.
It’s not right to treat a 30+ year fan like this. I bought at the highest tier. I’ve supported their past projects and licenses. I purchase all their books. A lawsuit will get press, perhaps more than comic book press.
I’m slow to respond right now but if you have the info, DM me.

Maybe if they think they'll have to spend more in attorney's fees than the cost of fulfillment they'll just do the damn thing.

Re: Report "Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth" on Kickstarter
Cody White posted this on Facebook and I thought it was worth archiving here:
"I joined the Valiant team after the Kickstarter campaign was fulfilled. The publishing team had nothing to do with the book except from minimal editorial work involved with actually executing the production of the story. Printing, production of the extras, shipping, that was all entirely on the DMG team, which is why it’s still in limbo because nobody at DMG knows how to do any of that.
My understanding is that the biggest part of the failure is that they set the fulfillment ceiling far too low. By the time the publishing team was made aware of the issues, we were already on the verge of being late to fulfill. The creative team still hadn’t been paid and the digital copy still hadn’t been generated. We refused to put out the digital copy until the creative team had been paid. Once they were paid, I personally wrote the updates to announce that the digital would go out and helped set that up. We did what we could to help set up the extras but since we weren’t in charge of the actual production, all we could do was advise. There was a hot and heavy push around February to get it done but even though we gave them all the information they asked for, no action was taken.
The responsibility to fulfill still lies with DMG even after the Alien deal. Alien did not take this project on in the deal. Alien is interested in doing Kickstarters and have expressed concerns over the lack of fulfillment but they can’t do anything about it and DMG doesn’t seem in any sort of a hurry to fix it. The folks who could potentially help them get it done have either gone over to Alien or have been let go (like Travis and myself).
As for why do a Kickstarter in the first place, it was really just about diversifying the publishing modality as far as I understand it. It was meant to be a way to add bells and whistles to excite the fan base but if you don’t actually set up the campaign to pay for those, you’re just setting a plan for failure, which is kinda the standard for DMG. Total *SQUEE* show."
