Overstreet 35 - Market Reports - Valiant mentions

Post by greg »

Since many of you don't buy the Overstreet Annual guides
(or at least, don't buy it every year)...

I figured you might be interested in the fact that Valiant was mentioned
several times in the Market Reports section of this year's edition.

Mentions of Valiant comics in the Overstreet #35 Market Reports

Michael Browning: "big year for back issues of Valiant Comics..."
paragraph mentioning both CGC and unslabbed sales. pg. 73.

John Chruscinski (Tropic Comics): "Even Valiants are making a comeback with
pre-Unity and gold issues being some of our most requested titles." pg. 75.

John Hauser: "Valiant comics are showing a comeback in the marketplace..." pg. 80.

Greg Holland (ValiantComics.com): pg. 80-81.
Read my report here.

Patrick Marchbanks (Golden Age Comics & Games): ...mention of quicker sales
for even 1990s titles from Marvel, DC, Valiant and Image. pg. 82.

Steve Mortensen (Colossus Comics): ...particular interest in Valiant titles
such as Solar, X-O, and Magnus in CGC 9.6/9.8 condition. pg. 84.

Israel Rodriguez (Midgard Comic Den): ...listed among "Going Up:"
"...Valiant comics like Magnus, Harbinger, X-O,.." pg. 92.

Matt Schiffman: "The low print run Valiants of the '90s in high grade are
lighting up the record books and discussions boards." pg. 93.

Doug Sulipa (Doug Sulipa's Comic World): ...listed among "Alternative Comics:"
"Popular titles to consider... Valiant titles..." pg. 95.
Doug Sulipa's publisher reports include "Valiant/Acclaim:" pg. 106.
paragraph/section for "Scarcer Valiant titles are still gaining momentum..."
In "Variants and Premium Editions: "...The Valiant premium editions are now hot."
pg. 107.

Lon Webb (Dark Adventure Comics): "Valiants have made a minor comeback
and the scarcer issues are beginning to show force again..." pg. 113.

(Market reports for OS#35 were reported by September 2004.)

Thanks greg. Im shocked to see people outside of this board keeping that kind of information.

Theres some sales I don't remember in that list:
CEAR "raw" VF/NM for $31
Predator vs. Magnus 1 Platinum for $113.50 (doesn't mention a CGC grade)

I show that a CGC 9.8 Predator vs. Magnus 1 Platinum sold for $105 in Sept. 2004.

I don't track the VF/NM sales of books, generally because they are
a fluctuating "percentage" of NM sale prices.

I picked up a CEAR on The bay for around 49$ if I recall. VF at least!
When I was five, I dragged my dad into "Mike's Comic Hut"... If only I'd known..

Actually, anytime a VF/NM sale is higher than the going rate for NM,
then it IS included in my sales records.
But how often does that happen?

John Hauser: "Valiant comics are showing a comeback in the marketplace..." pg. 80
This mention might mainly be because of me, John Hauser does almost all the local shows I go to and I've asked him in the past about Valiants. I also won a Predator vs. Magnus trade from him and picked it up at his house in person and talked to him a bit about why the book went for so much.

Looked for the fun of it in Comic Book Market Place from june 1993. Lots of mention of Valiant. Some well understanding what was happening, some not. Even found a match:
John Chruscinski (Tropic Comics), 2005 wrote:"Even Valiants are making a comeback with pre-Unity and gold issues being some of our most requested titles." pg. 75.
John Chruscinski (Tropic Comics), 1993 wrote:"Valiant seems to be slowing down - especially Magnus 25. Sales were not as good as expected. Turok #1 is still expected to do well." pg. 58
Wonder how everything we say now will look in hind-sight.

/Magnus
