Valiant Sales For July
Killers 1 7,949
Fallen World 3 5,938
Punk Mambo 4 5,877
Psi-Lords 2 5,385
Life & Death of Toyo Harada 5 4,621
Livewire 8 4,452
2 observations from these numbers-
1. LADOTH numbers tell me the fan base is decimated
2. Psi-Lords numbers tell me these mythical new fans don't exist
The brand is truly damaged perhaps beyond repair if LADOTH is only pulling 4,600, it's an amazing book, the best Valiant has ever produced IMO.
With that in mind what could they possibly do to turn this around? 10 more issues of Psi-Lords sure isn't going to do it.
Roku maybe?

I've been looking everywhere for the ultra-rare Turok vs Blister issue. Anybody able to help me out?

The numbers are abysmal. When was the last time a number one was that low? Not even 8K?
The titles don’t help. Killers is essentially a Ninjak spinoff. Tori Harada is a Harbinger book. They need to educate the reader. These titles aren’t helping.

Anyone think lack of incentive variants is keeping the numbers down? I know my wallet prefers it, but I think that was giving the numbers something of a boost, especially the #1s

Re: Valiant Sales For July
These titles are all at 'Cancel Point' as far as the original management at VEI would be concerned I'm sure.
I agree that I don't think the ever-changing titles are helping, and that something like Ninjak: Killers/ Harbinger: LADoTH would bring more coherency to the universe and confuse casual readers less, probably boosting those numbers a bit.
Also need those big characters back on the board. Give us some proper Bloodshot, XO, Harbinger, A&A, Shadowman, Ninjak, Rai and Divinity ongoings.
These numbers are kinda suggesting that the company's about to tank eh?
P.S: When I say 'ongoings', I really mean 'ongoings'! Cut that 'Ongoing = > 6 issues' crap!

Re: Valiant Sales For July
Unfortunately without Dinesh, I see mediocre titles with mediocre talent continuing through the Bloodshot movie.
Re: Valiant Sales For July
What the heck company is this? No Harbinger, X-O, Rai, Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, Shadowman etc? Just an Acclaim reject or two, a minor Valiant character or two, and some stuff I’ve never heard of.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

Re: Valiant Sales For July
The numbers are disheartening considering there are some decent enough stories here. Personally, I think the main problem (as many have already stipulated here), is the lack of recognizable tent-pole titles.
Bloodshot
Shadowman
Harbinger
Archer and Armstrong
Unity (I'm including this because, as someone new to the company in 2012, Unity was a great concept, poorly executed in parts, but has/had a solid foundation for a Valiant team-up book)
Ninjak
XO
I'm interested to see where Valiant are taking their titles, there doesn't seem to be a lot of focus (or any in fact) on ongoing titles (I'm talking 25+ issues). Perhaps 3-4 monthly ongoings with a few mini's (like they're publishing now) will reintroduce a more consistent fan base? who knows, I'm just a guy who likes to read comics month to month which feature character's im into.

I agree with you about Unity as a title - I liked it in concept if not always in execution when it was running. It still deserves consideration as a team book in the line.Bl00dsh0t wrote:The numbers are disheartening considering there are some decent enough stories here. And while most of the tentpole characters are in this current batch of 'off-brand' mini-series, I think it would probably work a little better to have the more recognizable character titles used in the actual titles. I know we have some coming back soon with RAI, Bloodshot & XO on the near horizon... hopefully that will reflect in better sales for those titles again.
Also, I don't have a hard time with the attempts to expand the line with different characters getting spotlighted, their backgrounds expanded upon, new villains etc. added in... but maybe theres a little too much of that at the moment. I really would like to read a good Harbinger title again, focused on Pete & the gang.

And LADOTH was an amazing story - it continues to give me cause for disappointment in humanity in general when we can't have nice things like that!

Re: Valiant Sales For July
Yes, I will always believe that is the case. As I have said many times before, I believe roughly 15% of the market was based on the collectors and speculators. Some of those books really took off, which in turn caused more people to want those variants. Is it fluff? quite possible, but more books were sold.kjjohanson wrote:Anyone think lack of incentive variants is keeping the numbers down? If we look back, the numbers for the final arc of Ninjak were what? roughly 5k? 5500? This was the planned end of that book too!
Also, we saw more stabilization from #2's and #3's regarding speculators. Heck, we saw more stabilization in the second and third arcs!

This is a low point since the re-launch. Without a figurehead leading the charge and telling us why the strategy is what it is (if there even is strategy) it’s difficult to have optimism apart from it can’t get much worse.

Not for me, I ordered the first 3 or 4 because once again I was foolishly optimistic but then I’m out!!

Im currently reading everything Valiant is publishing except Livewire. While I have enjoyed them all, except BS: Rising Spirit, Ive thought they would work better if they were mixed in with the heavy hitters. Regardless of the numbers I already plan to plop down my money for what ever they produce until i dislike it.
but yea those numbers are disheartening.

I bought the original cover art for Psi-Lords #1 on pure faith and hope that Valiant would do this right.
They didn’t.
Lucky me, Alan Quah’s cover art was not part of the problem.
Now I can hang it on the wall next to Gorham’s Dead Drop #1 cover as part of my “what could have / should have been...” art section.

I remember seeing this piece in an ad recently, thinking how cool was this piece, especially as it was, as I remember it, 4 different incentive variants. However, the story, the bvariants, and back issue sales were such a disappointment.sonicdan wrote:While I don't regret this purchase I can totally relate with this one.DirtbagSailor wrote:I bought the original cover art for Psi-Lords #1 on pure faith and hope that Valiant would do this right.
