Unity tpb box set
I’m currently watching a Unity tpb box set on eBay. I’ve never read this before. It’s currently at $30. Is it worth it? Somebody else has all of the floppies up for $25.

Well never mind. Minutes after I posted this and it got a few views it sold. Looks like one of you got it, can’t be a coincidence. Thanks....

Re: Unity tpb box set
For what it's worth, you should have bought it. The value is there both from the perspective of reading it: it's a truly wonderful tale. But also from collectible/quality standpoint. It looks great and the full sets with the box are becoming a lot harder to come by then they used to be.Syslops wrote:I’m currently watching a Unity tpb box set on eBay. I’ve never read this before. Hopefully you see another one in the future.
I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.

I figured I should have but wanted to get some opinions. More just irritated that somebody in the community thought it better to sweep in and snatch it like that without even chiming in.

Dang. You make a good point. I’ve always wondered about this kind of thing. You were seeking advice, and it someone here may have cut you out of the picture. Though it’s impossible to prove. I’m sorry that this happened to you.

I think that's a bit presumptuous. Only thirty people had viewed last time I looked, so it's not a certainty that someone went and bought it based on your post.Syslops wrote:I figured I should have but wanted to get some opinions. Yeah it sucks to lose a book that you want but how can you be sure it was one of us? Now you know more about it and you will probably find one soon.

Re: Unity tpb box set
I’m just assuming because it was up for auction for a few days with no bids then within five minutes of my post, and around 10 or so views, it was gone. Fairly insane coincidence given my audience here. Either way, not mad, just annoyed.

People on ebay tend not to bid until the very end on auctions unless they are new to bidding. It's basically like showing your hand in poker.Syslops wrote:I’m just assuming because it was up for auction for a few days with no bids then within five minutes of my post, and around 10 or so views, it was gone. True. It had a few days to go, though. That’s why I didn’t rush to buy it. It’s really not a big deal, just a lesson learned.

Extremely presumptuous. It's possible, but to come on here point fingers and whine about it when all you had to do was look at eBay completed sales to see what they've previously sold for. This is a pretty selfless and helpful community in my experience.SlyTrooper wrote:I think that's a bit presumptuous. One thing for next time - did it say that all tpbs were included? A closed box only has the first tpb.Syslops wrote:I’m currently watching a Unity tpb box set on eBay. I’ve never read this before. It’s currently at $30. Is it worth it? Somebody else has all of the floppies up for $25.

There was one at my local comic shop but somebody bought it.
Valiant should re-publish it in a hardcover.

Whining? Lol. Was looking for suggestions on something I had never read and as soon as I spoke it was snatched up. Wasn’t so much concerned over the price as I was asking if it was worth the read. Presumptious? Maybe. Extremely coincidental? Definitely. No need for you to get on here and whine about a topic that hasn’t been relevant for over a week now.
But yeah, this community has been great the short while I’ve been here. Another member actually sold me his extra complete set of floppies after this incident. Sorry you interpreted something the wrong way and got easily offended.

It's a shame you didn't snag one a few years back, the slipcase versions were fairly common and selling for 10-15 bucks.

Re: Unity tpb box set
Since we're talking about the Unity TPB set and discussing rarities in another thread, I thought I'd point out for new collectors that there's a pretty rare set of Unity TPBs that were published by Diamond. Here's a little history brought to you by our very own DBS. I believe there are two volumes.

Yeah, the Diamond set has always been highly sought after.
Re: Unity tpb box set
Going back to the original question, is the story worth reading? I pulled a few floppies from the free comic bin at my lcs this morning (parts 3,9,12,and 16). Is it worth hunting down the rest? Do I need to read any of the pre-unity books to understand what's going on?
Re: Unity tpb box set
Oh yes!Jrosen wrote:Going back to the original question, is the story worth reading?
It helps. Not so much to understand what's going on (as Unity is a stand-alone story), but to get to know the characters. Unity 0 sets up most you need to know to understand the story, so that one you should read first. Also the substories in the individual titles (two issues per title where part of Unity) are rather stand-alone. But you should for instance read chapter 4 before chapter 12, as both are issues of Magnus Robot Fighter. They even showed the same scene in several titles to avoid making the books difficult to understand (actually a board member once figured out how to edit to books to tell one single story).Do I need to read any of the pre-unity books to understand what's going on?

Re: Unity tpb box set
This is the story that put Valiant on the map in a big way. And I'd say the pre-Unity stuff is very important to read to have a full appreciation of what transpires.Jrosen wrote:Going back to the original question, is the story worth reading?
