Valiant Panels at Cons
I'm going to Comicpalooza tomorrow in Houston and am planning on attending the afternoon Valiant panel. Any with experience have any idea how crowded they get and if I need to get in line early to make sure I have a spot?

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
In all the other times I've been to NYCC, it was never a problem getting a seat. But I got burned last October when they had the NvtVU cast and preview. I showed up 15 minutes ahead of time and it was already full.

Valiant Panels at Cons
I can't tell you how much I wanted to go, but I have to grade papers.
Last year I went to Space City Comic Con, and we got seats easily.

While well attended I've never had trouble getting a seat at Phoenix ComiCon.

Plenty of seats at the panel at Planet ComiCon in Kansas City, MO. Get ready for a sweet Gold book.

You will be fine. I usually like to arrive 15 min early (military standard...) and get a nice seat front and center. It's also a great way to see other fans (and occasionally board members).

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
Thanks for this question. I plan on going to the Baltimore comic con later this summer. I am clueless about this scene. I want to hit as many Valiant panels as I can (assuming there are more than one).tchalla8 wrote:I'm going to Comicpalooza tomorrow in Houston and am planning on attending the afternoon Valiant panel. Good luck getting your spot. Let us know how it goes for you.

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
so I made it to the Intro to Valiant panel. Plenty of room. Pretty low attendance. Maybe 15 people in the room. Valiant Sales Manager Alex Rae led the panel and it was pretty tough in there. Only a handful of people in the room knew much about Valiant, so there wasn't a lot of interaction going on. Cool guy, though. Felt bad for him. No one seemed much interested. I did walk away with a free hardcover and a Harbinger Renegades gold, however. Went by the booth later and his was giving out Secret Weapons summer previews to whoever would take them.
Today was the lead up to Harbinger Wars 2 panel, but unfortunately yesterday was my only day at the Con.

What you described was the scene at the first Valiant panel at Planet ComiCon in Kansas City in 2016. The good news is the 2017 panel had an increase in attendees and there was lots of excitement in the room. Hopefully next year's panel will be better for you and the fans, especially with the hopes of getting another Gold book.tchalla8 wrote:so I made it to the Intro to Valiant panel. Plenty of room. That sucks to hear but they are a young company in the comic book world. Just gotta keep hitting the convention scene. I doesn't help that they don't really have that classic mainstream crime fighting superhero.tchalla8 wrote:so I made it to the Intro to Valiant panel. Plenty of room. Pretty low attendance. I really wanted to go to comicpolooza but it seems work always gets in the way. Hopefully next year.

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
The quality is there (usually). Valiant has a good product ready for each new fan.
But people are sheepish, and follow the wave of pop culture. Until pop culture changes (which it does) to something new (Valiant).
Most people (comic book fans) are quite comparable to flamingos actually. This is how I feel when I see many of them at conventions looking for (insert most recent movie characters).

People don't know what they're missing.
Quite frankly, most people these days are morons. Valiant writes smart stories, with smart characters, for smart readers. So while it bums me out that Valiant isn't a household name in the comics industry, it doesn't surprise me. Most people need to be spoon fed everything. You are never going to get that in a Valiant book.
Look at the first Divinuty arc as a perfect example. That stuff was weird and really gave you no answers at all. We all thought it was wonderful, but the masses can't handle that. Thinking and having to ask themselves questions makes their tiny brains hurt too much.
I hope Team Valiant never stops intellectually asking more of its readers than the big 2.
In terms of attendance at Cons, all we can do is go to as many panels as we can, and spread the word. I plan on going to my first ever Con, and I am hitting as many Valiant panels as I can. (Baltimore this summer.)

I've been to a few ... never had a problem getting a seat. They are interesting to me but not a lot of "zing" to them for casual observers.

It's shades of gray vs black and white. Young vs Mature.Gafti wrote:People don't know what they're missing.

Young and black and white will always be more popular even with adults regardless how good a read it may be.
Valiant from what I've read are definitely all about shades of gray.

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
every year, every panel. My Con panel list revolves around Valiant. Each year, I see many of the same faces, but I see new faces too, which is important. I do my best to spread the word, and I get my nieces and nephews into it as well. It's here where the biggest impact will be felt, as the younger generation and their ability to make information travel is pretty damn fast!

Re: Valiant Panels at Cons
I normally only attend cons Valiant is at. Want to help spread the word? Don't forget about your lcs. That's where most fans discover things. With the exception of the last six months (hard times) I have introduced so many fans to Valiant. I visit stores all over so cal and readily chat anyone talking comics. Comics are my hobby, Valiant is my passion. Valiant is a community. I have the pleasure of meeting many Valiant fans in person, the staff and creators are beyond description. And it's not just about their products. I talk football, cigars, politics, dumb jokes, video games, movies and even other comics. Valiant is so special. Believe me, when you talk...more people will hear. Try talking to some artists, retailers.. they know Valiant. I suspect big things in these next couple years.
Cons are great though! Especially for the gold books or exclusives. NYCC was the trip of a lifetime and a huge part of that was due to the people at Valiant.
