Wow! I have to say, after 11 votes I'm surprised at the love that The Valiant's getting. Honestly, I felt it was pretty mediocre in the grand scheme of things, but I guess that's just me!

Had to vote for The Valiant and Harbinger Wars.
However, I've greatly enjoyed each event so far, and am looking forward to more Rai in 4002...

I'm with DBS, but at the same time, the crossover issues were really bad. It made me put the titles down for awhile. I really hate corssover issues. They are almost always, as a general rule, bad. Perhaps the only crossover issues I've ever enjoyed were the Infinity Gauntlet ones, and 25 years later, I would probably hate those too;)

I don't know. The love for The Valiant is pretty easy to see, as it perfectly leads into so many other great stories. Bloodshot Reborn (just about the entire run) and The new Ninjak mini just to name two (I am sure the influence is greater). Also include Kindt and Lemire working together on this series, and you have one fantastic read!

Cool poll. I've only read a couple of these. Looks like I should prioritize "The Valiant" on my TPB pile to read.

Harvard& Princeton university level ...
1. Armour Hunters (absolute classic - VDitti at his best)
2. Harbinger Wars
Michigan state university level (no idea if that's good or bad!)....
3. Divinity III
4. 4001ad
5. The Valiant (I still can't forgive issue #3)
University of New Mexico level (which google tells me is the worst in America)....
6. Book of Death (although the tie in issues were excellent)
Not sure about Unity, are we talking about VH1 Unity?

Yes but tear out, shred then burn the pages of issue 3 when almost all of the Valiant heroes team up for a waste of time battle which effectively robbed us of seeing the first meeting of all of the various characters which should have been key issues spread over a number of years!otomo wrote:Cool poll. Re: Favorite VEI Event So Far!?
Ended up choosing only one, The Valiant.
I loved everything about it. I loved the script, artwork and how it had lasting consequences (for at least 8 or so issues of BR) in the VEIverse.
Stalinverse could have been a second choice, but the last ish killed it for me. I would vote on Armor Hunters and Harbinger Wars, maybe.

Re: Favorite VEI Event So Far!?
1) Harbinger Wars - nothing i dont like about this
2) Divinity III: Stalinverse - some of the red brigade backups werent great but overall fantastic
3) Unity - solid crossover but had that terrible gimmick where the x-o issues were skippable but still happened in between unity issues
4) Armor Hunters - think the main event was pretty boring & bloodshot tie in was terrible, but harbinger tie-in was fantastic and i liked the last issue + the aftermath stuff in x-o and that one-shot
5) The Valiant - great art but a weak story
6) Book of Death - i think the main story is terrible but fall of harbinger is my favourite VEI issue ever and the other fall ofs were all high quality too
7) 4001 A.D. - why did we need 4 issues to show rai going up in the x-o armour and beating father in a fight? x-o and shadowman tie-ins were just a waste of time so really i only liked blooshot 4001 and war mother

Armor Hunters is my favorite event/crossover/tie-in comic book series to date. By anybody.
The Delinquents is my #2 VEI choice, but it's not on the list.

Well admittedly, I didn't know I was the only one to consider it an event, so my bad. Clearly it didn't really make a difference in votes though.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Not sure about Unity, are we talking about VH1 Unity?
However, I still consider To Kill a King/At War With Unity to be an event. I would say it's elevated to "event" status due to launching Valiant's premiere super-team and crossing over with X-O. No other series has done that. Mission: Improbable did, but that was only 4-issues.
I would include Delinquents in the same category as Bloodshot USA and probably Rapture. They're all major "events" but they don't tie in to anything. I think The Valiant a special case that breaks the rule though.Tony_H wrote:The Delinquents is my #2 VEI choice, but it's not on the list.
When compared to other "line-wide events" (like Forever Evil, Secret Empire, Civil War, etc), I'm inclined to agree. I've yet to read a more cohesive event where all of the tie-ins were actually interesting and quality. The Bloodshot mini wasn't the greatest thing ever, but it was a fun knock-down drag-out fight, and the Unity tie-in sucks by itself, but adds a lot to the whole package when read with the rest of the event imo. The main mini, Harbinger, X-O, and the Aftermath issue were all great though. That level of consistency between tie-ins literally never happens at Marvel or DC.Tony_H wrote:Armor Hunters is my favorite event/crossover/tie-in comic book series to date. By anybody.

Re: Favorite VEI Event So Far!?
I'm really far behind on my reading, so I haven't gotten to Divinity III yet. As for the others:
1. Harbinger Wars: loved the players, loved the storyline, loved the downer ending
2. Armor Hunters: Definitely had that epic feel to it. I got super excited when the 'second armor hunter war' was teased, but Asmus screwed that up royally in the end of Unity.
3. Book of Death: Gilad usually gets underutilized so I liked how it put him center stage (and showed how he could kick everyone's a$$). The Fall of books were great
4. The Valiant: Loved the art, but the story was just ok. I never really got the connection b/w BS and Kay. It seemed really rushed. And that one scene where everyone shows up and loses was just strange. The immortal enemy was awesome though.
5. 4001 AD: Just finished this one. There were great elements in place (older Gilad, Giant XO armor, War Corps, Sunlight on snow) but the entire story was so rushed I didn't really care. The fall of New Japan and Father should have felt monumental but it was just meh. The Rai 4001 storyline was good

Re: Favorite VEI Event So Far!?
Really good point. For me, another 3-ish years of storylines set in New Japan would have given an eventual 'Fall of New Japan' event a serious amount of weight. As it was it just feels like it's happened a little too soon to me.Dr Noel wrote:The fall of New Japan and Father should have felt monumental but it was just meh.

So, this poll basically proves that for us lot to really enjoy a Valiant summer event we need to see a lot of stuff blowing up?
