I'll pop in and say G'Day to Jay Jay, if I get the timing correct.
Have to think of some questions.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Question, as someone who's never really done this before: How exactly is this chat going to be done?

As someone that just did an interview, it would be a good idea for people to formulate some questions in advance. I don't know where I would have been without my little cheat sheet with questions for Jim. Just throwing that out there.

You post... the thread updates then you read the other posts... Greg told me this is the way to do it and we'll see if it works.

I guess people would have to refresh once in a while...

AND OH YEAH... JJ said she is a slow typer.

Our cat, Mr Sunkist, had a tumor on his leg that required an operation. It was a rough time for us so I started a GoFundme page to try and raise the money for it. Christian and Josh came up with the project to help out. I thought the print came out really nice. Unfortunately Mr Sunkist developed a brain tumor after he had the tumor removed from his leg. We still miss him so much. Freddy (my BF) and I were so attached to that guy.

I spoke with JJ earlier today and she said she couldn't remember which VALIANT books she worked on, probably because she had a hand in all of them.

I did something on many of the books and in the early years I also trained and supervised the colorists. As well as designing logos, covers, ads, brochures and lots of other stuff,

I guess I thought that was obvious. lol. I used to get together with the pencilers and discuss what they could leave out or not have inked, especially skies. Like the Frank Miller Unity piece for Diamond and the cover to War Dancer 1.

Hi JayJay, have you or Jim ever thought about running a Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign for any potential creator owned comics project?

Are there any offers from Dark Horse for more projects for Jim in the near future?

In the very, very beginning Jim, myself and Art Nichols were meeting in Steve Massarky's law office to work on production issues and ideas. Later, when we had our own office we added bob Layton, Laura ... blanking on her name...and a couple of other people on a freelance basis, like Jan Harpes.

Not that I have heard about. I think it might be unlikely.

When you used Doc Martin watercolors to do the coloring for VALIANT, was that something that had been done in the industry before? If not, did it catch on anywhere else before digital took over?

The Dr Martin watercolors were the standard for people to color color guides with at both Marvel and DC, thought they had many more demanding uses. The particular ones we used were formulated for camera reproduction and were designed to give true color repro when separated. About the time we started VALIANT laser separations were becoming affordable and we made a deal with a separation house out in Long Island to do our scans at a bulk price. Touching up the negative was not included and since I had experience in the printing industry I used to touch up the raw negatives before we sent them to the printer, sometimes extensively.
