DAMAGED Comic Books That Will Make You Cry!
Several years ago, I bought a Silver Age collection of around 1,200 Marvels, including some duplicates. They varied in grade from some sweet VF & NM copies down to some train wrecks.
This post is about those train wrecks.
Those sad specimens who look like Very Fine's on the outside, only to reveal a cut page or disaster on the inside. I only found around 30 of these in the collection, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
But the issues that ARE damaged are real heartbreakers! Here is the first in the series:
STRANGE TALES #107

I love these early Marvel covers! Looks like a VF....

....until you come to the page with the cut panel. Right in the middle of the story!
The ad page is only on one side. A Sub-Mariner panel is cut from the other side. Ouch!
Do you guys have any train wrecks? Wanna see some more of mine?

Here's another heartbreaker!:
TALES OF SUSPENSE #59

Classic Captain America issue....

....OH! The pain of it all! It's missing the last page of the Ironman story!

OMG, this is a high grade collectors worst nightmare, but I think it has happened to all of us at some point in time. I picked up a X-men 30 something (36?) that looked pretty nice. When I got it home, I opened it up and several of the characters faces were cut out. Some kid had fun with cutting and pasting.

I thought I'd lucked into it bigtime once, until close inspection revealed lots of problems with some Golden Age books I bought from a former collector.
Batman 47 centerfold missing
Batman 9 page out
Batman 13 page out
Batman 19 page out
Flash Comics 138 page out
Batman 100 1/4 of front cover missing
Don't get me wrong, the Silver Age stuff was complete and intact and there were some nice keys, but the golden age stuff was rotten. When I bought it the collector actually said, the silver stuff is good, but I can't say that for all the golden age stuff. Boy was he right!

Let's just say that the silver stuff more than covered the price of the collection and that these books were 'throw-ins' to the deal!ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Hmmm..nice haul. Here's another Classic Catastrophe!:
FANTASTIC FOUR #22

Another Marvel Masterpiece....

....Arrrgh! (Marvel once had a satire comic book titled that) At least the story s complete! Just a double-sided ad page cleanly clipped!

If it's just missing a page of non story then I'd be interested in buying.
Just so you know.

$$, man, $$. Unless it would affect current or future transactions, I love to see PUBLISHED reports of sales. That's why I've always gotten a kick out of market reports, full of lies though they may be...at least they're CLOSE to reality, and it gives everyone a concrete idea of what someone was actually willing to pay.

If I told you all that I got and what I paid for it, I would have to turn in my 'good guy' badge of honor, sorry.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:That don't tell me what I want to know.mrwoogieman wrote:Let's just say that the silver stuff more than covered the price of the collection and that these books were 'throw-ins' to the deal!ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Hmmm..nice haul.
