Have any Valiant series been "cancelled"?
It seems to me that hiatus and renumbering and titles changes are all that's been happening. Has anything actually been cancelled or is it really just completion of a run?

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Maybe Eternal Warrior.Aram wrote:It seems to me that hiatus and renumbering and titles changes are all that's been happening. Has anything actually been cancelled or is it really just completion of a run?

Also, I think Peter Milligan's Shadowman was cancelled. In the promotion leading up to it it sounded like he had much more than 7-issues worth of story to tell.

Probably Unity, though can't really say that I read it much except for the X-O and Armor Hunters tie-ins.

The more I think about it the more I feel that VEI has been just ending series not cancelling.
Acclaim CANCELLED series and left many hanging. VEI has seemed to only create a breaking point to re-focus efforts and/or redirect.
If this is indeed the strategy and they stick to it then I have a feeling that Valiant will begin to emerge as heavyweight in the industry in the not too distant future.

To keep it 90, I think VEI is a ways away to being a "heavyweight" in the industry. There are 2 heavyweights in the industry. Thats it. Not Image, not Dark Horse.
I like VEIs long term plan. I like the direction they are heading in as a company. I can see growth and purposeful steps and decisions.
I think I am as big a Valiant fan man (I'm far from boyish) as anyone..... but to be even considered a legit 3rd major or whatever is a BIG BIG step. I DO think it is possible, but it will be a long road.
I do agree that they do have attempted "re-focusing" points.
Also, I'm down with your verve and vigor my man!

I don't mean heavyweight as in being dominant in sales but by being solid and noteworthy and known and talked about commonly.Elveen wrote:Aram wrote:The more I think about it the more I feel that VEI has been just ending series not cancelling.

Image is the only other non big two heavyweight that I see and that is mostly because of two titles.
I was thrilled to be digging in a comic shop back issue bin yesterday and overhear fanboys talking about what characters would win in battles, they were talking mostly big two and then brought out Bloodshot and Ninjak into the mix.
It was sureal.
Two more years of quality publishing and a kickass movie trailer.. And i can see Valiant being a (comic)household name again.

Re: Have any Valiant series been "cancelled"?
For the most part Valiant has brought every series to a satisfying conclusion before ending the title
Except for Eternal Warrior
That 8 issue series felt woefully incomplete. That's one that they gave up on, IMO.
Greg Pak didn't tell a satisfying series arc before that title came to an end.
Tons of unanswered questions with many story threads that never got revisited.
I'm sure Milligan had more stories to tell with Shadowman but the series along with End times mini brought the series to a conclusion that warranted a hiatus.
I think if the sales were better, Dysart would happily continue writing Imperium .... as it is, i'm sure he will bring the title to a satisfying conclusion.
EW though... that i think fit the description of a cancellation (even though it would never officially be termed that way)

Re: Have any Valiant series been "cancelled"?
I think that if VEI have 'cancelled' any series before it was originally planned to end they've been very good at bringing plots to natural end or break points before doing so, and as a result haven't left many titles swinging in the wind.
I think maybe the one exception to this was the first EW run - That set up a load of stuff that never had any resolution in the end. To date I think that might be the only one.

Yup, EW ended like that. No explanation besides it's over for now. Also, Shadowman. End Times was the end per se, but that book was completely at odds with itself-sometimes awesome, sometimes bad. Begging for a cancelation. End Times was better in that regards, despite being IMHO, not a good book.

Re: Have any Valiant series been "cancelled"?
I agree that End Times wasn't perhaps that best written comic ever, but I think the reason I don't personally class it as 'unfinished/cancelled' is because the plot did resolve itself by the final book, and even set up future events, which all things considered wasn't the worst way the book could have ended. Counts as 'completed' to me, but that's just opinion really, regardless of plot quality.ShadowTuga wrote:Yup, EW ended like that. No explanation besides it's over for now.
