Amazing Fantasy 15 CGC 5.5 or Restored 9.4?
A ComicLink email advertised these 2 books:
Amazing Fantasy CGC 5.5
Amazing Fantasy CGC 9.4 Restored
Of course, the 9.4 caught my eye. But, what would you purchase, money being no object (which it is for me!) and you could only buy one?
It's an interesting question to me. Get the uber high grade restored copy? Or a solid mid grade candidate? The book is close to being the 3rd most highly sought after book, or close to it. What provides the higher value long term?

CGC 5.5
The right amount of money can make a CGC 2.0 into a restored 9.4, but nothing can make an unrestored 5.5.

Unless it's in consideration because it is a cherished Golden Age title, then Unrestored every time.

When I hear 'restored' I think plastic surgery. The kind where you look mildly better but also look like you had work done. The 5.5 is much nicer for its authenticity.

I don't mind fake boobs, but when it comes to books they better be all natural.

Anyone got cgc 6 plus they want to experiment with?

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

It depends on the type and level of restoration. I don't want amateur restoration and I don't want trimmed pages, tape, or glue. If it's staples, pieces added (leaf casting), and some color touch I'd consider it.

What if they used the best dot-matrix printer money could buy in 1986 to print out a replacement cover?Intrepidxc wrote:It depends on the type and level of restoration. Bring on the dot matrix covers! Btw in sure there are people on these forums who don't know what dot matrix printers are/were.Beware Cyclops wrote:Intrepidxc wrote:I might buy that because it's unique!Beware Cyclops wrote:What if they used the best dot-matrix printer money could buy in 1986 to print out a replacement cover?Intrepidxc wrote:It depends on the type and level of restoration. Not a necessarily good idea, but an idea nonetheless.

I was at McDonalds with a friend (within a decade older than myself). My order number was 110. I said "Hey, remember 110 film?" My friend knew; the young cashier did not. Same thing with music cassettes, 8-track tapes, Betamax, Laserdiscs, etc.Intrepidxc wrote:Bring on the dot matrix covers! You always knew when your printer started the print job with that sound. How about misaligned paper!nycjadie wrote:The sound. In my head.Intrepidxc wrote:Bring on the dot matrix covers!
