CBR LEAVES VEI OUT FOR 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!
CBR recently came out with their Top 100 books of 2015 and for the second year in a row, VEI was totally omitted from the list, despite CBR having many great reviews during the year of VEI books
. There is an obvious disconnect between what they do all year and their summary at the end of the year and we should point this out to CBR as supportive Valiant fans.
Send a tweet, post a comment, or generate an email to CBR expressing your disappointment in how this is handled and urge them to revisit their process to make it more fair. It may not seem like a tweet, post, or email could make much of a difference, but it was actions taken by fans here and others that got Dinesh named Publisher of the Year over at Comicsbeat.com solely through a write in campaign. So we CAN make a difference and impact by our efforts
Please know that the method which makes the largest impact is commenting on CBR's site directly about this.
Here's the link where you can leave comments: http://www.comicbookresources.com/artic ... aster-list" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
VEI has won a lot of awards this year which is HUGE bragging rights. Let's do what we can to have CBR see how VEI's fans are involved and want proper recognition shown by contacting them now.
Thanks for your help with this!

I stopped paying attention to anything other than straight news and interviews on CBR for this sort of reason. They feel like they need to keep the Big 3s bread buttered so they can continue to get interviews and exclusives.
They need to learn the publishers need them just as much if not more than the other way around. Just look at what Wizard was able to do in the 90s for indies and new publishers. Marvel or DC would have begged to be on their cover during the boom.

I SO agree. Like I said in the post, if this really is how you feel and you want to help Valiant, it would be tremendously helpful for as many fans as possible to go to the link then comment on that CBR post. I know they read that and pay attention to such comments so here's hoping you have time to go and comment to let CBR know how wrong they are.

Wow, top 100 books and Valiant don't get a *single* mention
For the second year in a row...
Given the amount of love Valiant get from CBR during the rest of the year it's clear that there's some kind of corruption lurking within the walls at the CBR offices.
I'm not signing up to make a single comment on a forum I'll never use again, but anyone's welcome to take a screen grab and post this comment over there on their board if they want to.

Re: CBR LEAVES VEI OUT FOR 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!
I am a bit mixed on this and I only say this as a person who has written book reviews for a few sites.
You can't make someone read something. You can't make them like it.
I've had people who send me .PDF's to read all the time of their indie work and they constantly bug me and bug me to read it. It doesn't make reading their book any better. On the flip side of that, I don't care about Saga. I wouldn't put it in my top anything for the year. By that, it would be annoying if someone was, "How can you leave out Saga?" I know lots of people like it but I wouldn't add it to make someone happy.
I know that Valiant is an underdog and a fan-favorite. Still, CBR had 41 or so people working on this and if none of Valiant's books are listed, does that mean they need to be forced to like them? Do they need to add more people just for the sake of pleasing the VEI crowd?
The way this all reads to me is that people need to see your view. Do you want them to like the books and make a decision based on that or do you want them just to put the books up?

All good points so let me attempt to respond.
The fact is that for the last two years CBR has done MANY reviews of VEI books and many of those reviews have been highly rated. VEI provides the reviewers there copies of their material for reviews and VEI gets more than its fair share of reviews as a result. What comes up as a bit of a question in how this "Top 100 Books of the Year" list is related to the reviews done all year. It would logically seem that if VEI is the beneficiary of good reviews all year by the review staff, then that same sort of percentage would reflect in this end of year list. There should be some correlation between the two, especially since the people doing the weekly reviews are the same ones doing the end of the year list. For some reason, there is a disconnect and THAT is what we are hoping for CBR to review so that there is a consistency of opinions across the boards.
You are certainly correct that nobody can (or should) force someone to like their books. It is solely this lack of correlation which seems askew and that we're commenting on the CBR site, asking them to look at how it is done and how it might be changed to more properly reflect the reviews done by their staff all year long.
Despite Valiant Fans being passionate about their support, CBR should STILL review the books as they see fit. That is their job. My only concern is a consistency which seems to be missing and which hopefully with urging (politely) from fans might be corrected.
Hope that helps clarify what I'm hoping we can achieve with this requested effort.

Is there a master list somewhere of what was won in 2015? I don't pay attention to this stuff. If the list of awards is that big, I'm ok with not making a single news site's top 100.brucehartshorn wrote:VEI has won a lot of awards this year which is HUGE bragging rights.

Re: CBR LEAVES VEI OUT FOR 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!
I don't disagree, but I also don't see it as forcing someone to like VALIANT. Many of the people on their panel are the CBR reviewers who review VALIANT books as part of their job, along with a lot of other publishers. I find it hard to believe that out of 41 people, none of them enjoyed a VALIANT title enough to include one on the list?Donovan wrote:^^^ I agree 100%.Joshua wrote:I am a bit mixed on this and I only say this as a person who has written book reviews for a few sites.

So much crap on that list.
I think that if you are going to pump Valiant all year and give rave reviews then shun them in a top 100 list (it's not like it's the top 10), then you are full of *SQUEE* as a publication.
You either lied to me about the reviews. (to get readers and ratings?)
Or
You lied to me about the list. (To make the big boys happy? To get ratings? Etc.)
THERE IS NO INBETWEEN!

Never heard of some the books on the Top 100 list. Besides the lack of Valiants, what about East of West?

Archie & Jughead both being so highly ranked on this list is surprising as well.

Re: CBR LEAVES VEI OUT FOR 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!
You guys need to read your own posts from outsider's perspective. It's like cheerleading squad here. What Valiant needs is sales. They need to crack the top 10 monthly list then maybe...CBR will give finally play cheerleader with you guys. So how does Valiant increase their sales, two fundamental ways, quality and publicity. Their books are average, not bad but not a homerun by any means. They need upgrade their coloring and art to compete with Marvel and DC, their writing needs some personality, Van Meter injects a lot personality in Shan. I can't say that for Eternal Warrior or X-O as both have literally the same he-man personality.
Lastly their's no weekly spokesperson pimping Valiant like Marvel does once a week on CBR, They even have DC's editors interview once a month at least. Valiant needs a spokesperson/editor that tweets and keeps readers appraised of weekly storylines, as opposed to quarterly or annual publicity. It has to be frequent and most importantly made relevant to the current status of Valiant, not just far flung future Valiant.
