VEI has released 300 unique issues!

Post by lorddunlow »

I was going through my collection and noted that VEI passed this number last week!

Congratulations!

This is really hard to believe. I think VEI has proven every doubter wrong. Hard to believe it has been 3.5 years since I saw a news article on ComicVine about the return of Valiant and reimmersed myself in comics again.

VH-1 had in the neighborhood of 812
Ack-laim had in the neighborhood of 257

this is from what I can remember and I am probably off by a few either way...so take it with a grain of salt.

That 812 figure probably includes variants. I remember hearing that the number of unique issues was slightly over 700, maybe 705?

While Valiant 1991-1996 did have 700+ unique story issues, pre-Unity to Unity was only a little over a year, and post-unity until Acclaim actually took over (in 1994) was only a couple of years.
The post-Unity Acclaim (1994-1996) was about two years.

At 3.5 years... VEI already has the longest run of any Valiant management/editorial without a change in ownership. :hm:

There is a 44 page thread of people saying it's never going to happen.
I find their lack of faith disturbing.

In many ways, it's a heck of a lot better than some of the VH1 stuff. Post-Unity, with their rush toward 18 titles, quality really suffered. Hard Corps, SLDM, Secret Weapons, Psi-Lords, Geomancer... a lot of it was kind of forgettable.

So congratulations to Dino and the gang!

:popcorn:
valiantdatabase.com lists 1010 VEI variants, however 18 of those are VH1(not sure why) and 89 are yet to be released - so 903.

Have the sales of all of VEI issues to date surpassed the sale of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (1993) #1 yet? I'll bet they have or are getting awfully close.

I'll reference valiantdatabase.com again. They list total sales from Dec 2014 - Oct 2015 as 918,892. Add in an estimated 70,000/month in sales for the year previous will bring the total to 1,758,892 which is more than the estimated 1,750,000 printed copies of Turok #1. I could go through the comiclist.com sales records and get a more precise number, but I think the answer is yes.

I've been keeping up with it using the Comichron.com numbers.

2012 = about 510,000 books
2013 = about 980,000 books
2014 = about 870,000 books
2015 (through October) = 845,000 books

So, VEI is already around (and probably over, with international not counted on Comichron) 3.2million.
