ValiantComics.com Collection, Greg's books for sale now...
After teasing for over a year and a half... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42839" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... I'm finally ready to begin a sale of books.
What are these books?
The ValiantComics.com Collection represents the collection of Valiant comics that I (Greg Holland) have built over the past 20+ years.
For more than 16 years, I have been the administrator of the ValiantComics.com domain and other Valiant fan websites.
Who are you?
First... let's be clear about who I am not.
I am not officially associated with Valiant Comics past or present.
I am not claiming to be the #1 collector of Valiant Comics in the world.
I am a Valiant fan since 1992.
I've been an online Valiant fan website administrator since 1997.
In 1999, I registered the ValiantComics.com domain and moved my Valiant fan website started in 1997 from its old location.
In 2004, I registered the ValiantFans.com domain as a separate domain for this message board.
I also own many other Valiant-related "dot coms" which I hope to continue to develop for many years.
I'm one of the guys who "kept the torch alive" for Valiant in the years between Acclaim and Valiant Entertainment.
I'm certainly not the only one.
I bought Valiant comics in person since 1992 and online at sites like ebay.com since 1997 - when many believed Valiant was worthless and dead.
I bought my first CGC graded (third party verified and encapsulated) Valiant Comic in 2001.
I have records for every graded and encapsulated comic book that I own.
I'm planning to share those details with each comic I sell, and I hope to track these comics in the future.
I'll have a website where the future owners/buyers can add to the sales and ownership history of the books, if they like.
I have registered ValiantCollection.com for this purpose on September 17, 2015.
Why should anyone care that you owned a book?
There's nothing that's automatically special about my books.
Some collectors like to know the history of the books they purchase, including who has owned them in the past.
If collectors are willing to pay the asking price for my comic books, then I'm happy to provide the history of the comic book from the time I purchased it.
There are many copies of most of these books, and there will likely be copies of many of these books available for sale at a lower price than I am asking.
If the fact that I have owned a comic does not matter to you, I recommend finding the books you would like to own at a lower price.
I honestly have mixed feelings about selling any of my books, so I really don't want to see them go to homes that don't care.
I hope that the history of the books and the website to track the books adds a fun element for the future owners of these books.
So why are you selling your books now?
There are a number of reasons...
Reason #1 - My wife and I are adopting a second child.
Our daughter is four years old and we will be adopting a second child in the next year or the next few months, if all goes well.
We are using a national adoption service, and it is a very expensive process.
I am willing to part with some books to ease our financial burden with this family addition.
Reason #2 - I have a very large comic book collection. If I am not part of the sale process at some point in my life,
then it will be a lot of work (a burden) that I have left for others if something happens to me.
Reason #3 - Three years ago... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37990" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There would always be a Reason #2 even if I was perfectly healthy, but because of what happened three years ago
it makes the burden that I might leave for others something that I want to address while I can.
Hopefully, I'll laugh at age 79 about how I thought I had to worry when I was 39.
But let's focus on Reason #1.
Are you selling everything?
No.
I am not going to sell any comic for which I own fewer than three copies.
When I first began collecting things, even before I collected comics, I always thought that I should try to own three.
One that I could sell any time, one that I could have as a backup copy, and one that would be in my permanent collection.
Any book for sale will be at least a third copy that always said I could sell any time... or fourth copy, fifth, etc.
At least two copies... the backup copy and the permanent copy will not be leaving my collection.
I will not be listing every comic at once. There are just too many... and I don't need to sell all of my extra copies.
I'll try to list a variety of books at a pace that will allow me to keep them shipping on time.
I'll adjust the pricing or the sales methods based upon what is working and what is not.
Please do not feel obligated to purchase my comics. This is not a fundraiser to keep the message board operational.
I hope there will not be any hard feelings if I can't supply a particular comic at a particular price on demand.
It's not a clearance sale. I'm not liquidating. If some books don't sell then they will happily stay in my collection.
Anything Else?
I will also create a certificate for each book, which will include the (brief) history of the book and embossed "ValiantComics.com Collection" seal.
The book will also be added to ValiantCollection.com for (optional) future sales record keeping.
A book must have been part of my collection for more than one year to qualify as a ValiantComics.com Collection item.

Congrats on your second child Greg. We just had our first in April and she is doing a good job tonight keeping us awake. Wouldn't change it for anything though.

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Good luck with the sale Greg, and congrats on the upcoming adoption.
I wont be buying since I am almost at the point of selling all my stuff due to space limitations lol.
One thing I will ask is... can we see some pics of the Holland Hoard? Even just the stack of long/short boxes in your mystery storage place would be awesome to see.

Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?

Climate-controlled, all boxes are more than one foot off the ground.nscc wrote:One thing I will ask is... can we see some pics of the Holland Hoard? Even just the stack of long/short boxes in your mystery storage place would be awesome to see.
Those are mostly longboxes. I am only using short boxes now.
Some of the ones at the top are short boxes (two deep).
There are at least 10 more short boxes not included (it's an older photo).

- Especially "dude." And "balls." Those terms work in the tech industry.

They're not on that side of the storage unit.nycjadie wrote:13K books? Are the slabs in there as well? I want to see the slabs!
This is a "sampling" of slabbed books from the storage location.
