Dead Drop #4 Discussion
ok so these two random kids could hack x-o manowar's armor (armor even livewire had trouble hacking back in the first arc of Unity) and can bring back to life someone who had their head chopped off
and the alien apparently can disinfect people but didnt think to disinfect himself
and the whole resolution of the arc basically happened off panel and got told to us in a letter
good work kot

Re: Dead Drop #4
What
The
*SQUEE*?!?
While for the second issue in a row, I enjoyed a little development of a previously barely used character in Cejudo, this story made ZERO sense. How did the Alien get infected? Why were hose two kids even there? If the Alien had a cure, why not use it (unless it only worked on humans for some reason) to save himself? How would infecting the Earth have led to revenge against the planet the virus came from? How exactly would Cejudo have killed XO Manowar? How could rope hold a practically Omega level Psiot who can call upon almost any Psiot power to save himself? And to add to the questions above, how did 2 kids hack the XO armor and reattach Beta Max's head?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to the Worst Writing thread and vote for Dead Drop.

Re: Dead Drop #4
not good at all. I give the whole series 3 out of 10, and 2 of those points go to issue 3, and issue three was completely undone with this issue. Probably the worst of the new Valiant

I think it may be worse in terms of plot and writing, but not as bad in terms of destroying the character of a fan favorite IP.KXXX wrote:So like... End Times bad? Worse? I haven't read it yet.

Re: Dead Drop #4
Wow, that was a train wreck. I agree with all the above negative comments and criticisms and questionings of How/Why the heck was "X" even possible. I wanna put this writer on the "Never Again" list for VEI, right up there with Ming 'potato car' Doyle.
It's like Valiant's version of the Star Wars Christmas Special - you just want to pretend it never happened and hope everybody goes along with the act so that nobody ever mentions it again. At least I can now say that the first Eternal Warrior series and the ending of the Shadowman series can no longer be considered the worst material VEI has published to date.

Seeing these reviews for whatever reason reminds me of the Amazon reviews of Haribo sugar free gummy bears.

Re: Dead Drop #4
I was hoping this series would redeem itself in the end, but alas. I'll re-read it in one sitting to see if I can make some sense out of it, but I'm not sure that will help. It's too late in the final issue to mention X-O Manowar being unable to fly in the first issue, that sounds like it was written in to respond to criticism.
At first I wondered if this was a generic story Kot had in the drawer and tried to insert some Valiant characters into it, but with a mention of a dead drop in this week's Ninjak, I wonder if VEI was trying to make that a thing in their universe?

I don't hate Ales Kot personally. I don't know the guy, I can't really hate him. But I hope Ales Kot won't write something like this for Valiant ever again.
In germany we always get a good laugh out of his name.
Alles is german for everything.
Kot is a german word for *SQUEE*.
His name is one L away from meaning everything is *SQUEE* in german and that's how I feel about this issue, except for the art. The art was fine.

Re: Dead Drop #4
Ales Kot simply isn't a good enough writer to write for Valiant. Nothing that he has written qualifies him as even a B-level comic book writer (and yes, I've tried Zero and all of his other Image crap). VEI and VEI fans expect more out of the creators.

Re: Dead Drop #4
I will be the contrarian here and say I didn't hate this issue, or the series. There was a sort of light-hearted vibe to the whole thing that I liked. And it was all very readable. And cool art as well. I actually look forward to reading all issues of Dead Drop in one sitting to see how it plays out that way. While I totally understand why people didn't like this series, I think if you take it as a sort of out-of-continuity experiment, it was actually kinda fun.

Glad I'm not the only one!
I don't get around here as much as I used to I've been busy in other places. I love this board it's just I'm trying to push the borders to new pastures.
I had to check back though and see what you guys thought of this series to make sure I wasn't crazy, I went nuclear on this piece crap in the latest VCR

Re: Dead Drop #4
I'm having difficulty imagining how this got the green light. It made little sense and had to be rescued with a letter of explanation which didn't really answer much.
Cover of issue #1 "A King After Him". There was never even a dead drop.
Customer expectations are important. This was marketed wrongly. It should have been billed as a light-hearted romp ala Q&W.
I'll leave it at that.

What's this 'letter of explanation' at the end? Is it part of the story, or some editorial thing?

the conclusion occurs off panel and Detective Cejudo has to write a letter explaining what happened.ValiantChris1994 wrote:What's this 'letter of explanation' at the end? Is it part of the story, or some editorial thing?

Re: Dead Drop #4
Personally, I did NOT care for the Dead a Drop series.
However...
Valiant did try something different and new; with a different and new creative team. It was rough, from a writing perspective, but it was also educational for those involved and (I hold faith) that Dinesh and the Valiant Team are looking at this and looking for ways to improve further. Kot's writing on this was not great; however, he can write as he has proven in the past. We can only imagine that Valiant is having a discussion with him about what both they (and we) expect, and the future will be brighter.

Re: Dead Drop #4
Even if you discount the absolute lack of research done on the characters, this story is weak. Even with completely new, unknown characters, this story would be weak.
Let him write Deadpool, or some other dreck, for mouth-breathing marvel fans.
He brought a dead character back to life... With teenage parkour hackers.
This book is just an insult to fans of valiant and good writing in general.

Re: Dead Drop #4
I hate to neg anything Valiant - they do such great work overall.
I reserved my comments until the end of the series, but now that it is over I have to voice that this is a title I want to forget. It was weak enough that I am tempted to put these books in a separate box as the rest of my Valiant books so I do not end up reading it again during a future Valiant re-read.

Re: Dead Drop #4
Wow. This kind of stuff reminds me why I read Valiant in the first place, most comics are pretty terrible huh? Not to mention that Kot loves stirring up internet drama, and i would hate to see Valiant get dragged into all of that nonsense, it destroys everything it touches.
I was abandoned... on a doorstep.. in a basket. In 1945.

Re: Dead Drop #4
Anybody know what the sales figures for the series were? 1 was obviously a hit, but was much of that momentum sustained though 3 and 4?
