LOTG is 1:25, vs. Book Of Death Rivera 1:60
So as the title implies, I know that there is a lot of hoopla about the LOTG 1 variant, but I wonder if collectability-wise, the Book of Death 1:60 Rivera variant has more potential in terms of increasing in value, since theoretically there should be about half as many published right?. Thoughts?

LOTG ~ new story.
1;60 new cover
If the LOTG is never reprinted, then I would go with that.
I used to collect every cover, but just to confusing. Personally I cannot devote the brain power to remembering such vast quantities of variants just to read a comic.
Two levels of collectability, having a reading set and collecting covers. One involves that other, but it also leaves alot of 'pricey' books that only a few care about just to have a diferent cover

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Also, as far as I understand, LOTG is not truly 1:25.
A LCS had to order 25 Book of Death books to get an LOTG. But if a LCS only ordered, say 5 Book of Death books, as I'm sure happened a great deal, no LOTG book would have been printed for them.

It's the same way for all limited variants. The 1:60 isn't truly a 1:60 by that same standard.wwise03 wrote:Also, as far as I understand, LOTG is not truly 1:25.

I think it's the opposite. If a book is 1:25 for retailers, and let's say 50 retailers order 5 copies... none of them earn the variant... but that doesn't mean those 10 copies of the 1:25 don't exist.jeremycoe wrote:It's the same way for all limited variants. The publisher can print the full 1:25. The publisher can print 1:25 plus extra in case of damages. The publisher can print 100,000 copies regardless of the 1:25. That 1:25 ratio is for retailers to guarantee themselves a copy.
Publishers don't need to guarantee themselves anything... they publish. If they want extra for themselves, they can do that. If they want extra for artists/friends/neighbors, they can do that. They can publish whatever they want. Yes... if the publisher made 100,000 copies of a book that only "supposedly" should have 3,000 copies... they could anger retailers... but they are allowed to do whatever they want. As a result, it's usually safe to bet that a 1:25 book will have at least the 1:25 ratio based on the print run... regardless of what the retailers earn.

Re: LOTG is 1:25, vs. Book Of Death Rivera 1:60
Greg is right. You guys do a lot of assumptions based on ratios and retailer performance. Remember, these are printed in advance. NOBODY except the publisher and the printer (well, diamond, maybe) knows how many get made, and it's a case-by-case decision by the publisher. You are never going to get close. even knowing the print run and the ratio is not really a good way, but it may be the best one available to you to ballpark it.
BUT, if you think that's how the publisher makes the print run, by looking at retailer orders and ratio and using that to calculate how many to print, you are OFF by a mile.

I got the Rivera 1:60 from one of my lcs, for cover price because it had a little crease on the bottom right corner. I didn't mind, I rolled it a few times, and it looks fine.
