If by invest you mean purchase incredibly expensive LEGO kits, put them together with the kids one time, then take them apart and dump the pieces in the huge box of other LEGOs then count me in!!!

Re: Any board members here collect / invest in LEGOs?
For years when Christmas and my birthday would come around I always told my kids to just get me a Lego set and we would put it together, um, together.
I keep all the finished sets on some shelves but sometimes break down the bigger ones back into the box (like those Indiana Jones and pirate ship sets). I keep all the minifigs in a separate box. I have about 75 of those.
I'm sure there is some resale value but I am hoping to doing this again with grandkids eventually.

from what I've seen the payoff is there. Certain sets sell for BIG $, like BIG.

Are older Legos worth anything? I have a bunch from when I was a kid but they look exactly like the current ones. Are there any differences?

From what I've seen, you need the box.
Some fo the loose figures are SUPER expensive.

My wife likes building Lego kits but I would not say that she is a Lego enthusiast. For our anniversary, I got a pair of Lego minifigs customized in our likenesses.

Re: Any board members here collect / invest in LEGOs?
I used to more or less. Mostly I bought stuff to prepare for the day that I can build a giant city. I have a "not small" collection, but not nearly enough for my lofty goals. I hoped to steal my kids when they "grew out of them", but they seemed to catch on by my continuously buying for myself that you never "have" to grow out of LEGO.. so I think I'm screwed there.
Love me some "LEGO".

Re: Any board members here collect / invest in LEGOs?
I just went to a conference with a co-worker that heavily collects Legos. He has over 250 kits based on Star Wars, J.R.R. Tolkien books, Lone Ranger (especially because of the Constitution train set and stagecoach), and all of the Lego Movie sets. He was sharing pictures of his sets in this 10' X 10' storage unit. It was packed from wall to wall.
I think his most expensive was the $3k-$4k Deathstar original set. Supposedly it is over twenty pounds when assembled.

I would love to collect lego sets, but then I'd need even more room to display the fully assembled sets. I really like the Star Wars stuff lego has and would love to have the ships decorating my room.

My office closet is packed with unopened Lego sets. When they start piling up on the floor to about shoulder height I pack some in a box and put it in the basement. I build them too, but at a much slower rate than I buy.

My daughter loves lego.
I buy sets in advance, thinking about to buy Parisian Restaurant or something similar for christmas. Yes the on in 11 months, not the one just passed.
She is only just turned 10, don't know if 16 plus is to advanced.

Finished artic and close to Scrooby door, looking at new star wars sets though smaller ones. Would love the cinema as part of the shops sets and noted that the ghostbuster fire station is same scale

Just saw the Ghostbusters firestation, while looking at stuff for my daughter.
Very big, something like 4500 pieces (I think).
You do this yourself or with the boys?

I basically pooped my pants at the £275 price tag and they were out of stock anyway, so bought Ecto-1 instead with some xmas money gifts lolPhantom wrote:Just saw the Ghostbusters firestation, while looking at stuff for my daughter.

Re: Any board members here collect / invest in LEGOs?
[Yeh a bit steap. But i think when they say hard to get they mean iit with this one. Don't think it will be made for long.
Not a lego expert, but a few lines are made in limited numbers. Superised, as I thought lego would make it to sell, and remake to sell more if their is high demand.
The Ghost Busters fire station is pretty cool, at least you can play with it. The Tower bridge is similar price and bricks number and far less 'playable'.
Thats why I am buying Parisian Restaurant. Big playability after it is made.
My 40th comming up, wife has no idea about anything I like. ~ Maybe the Ghostbusters Firestation is the way to go. That or a record player
.
When I say my wife has no idea ~ I suggested something for 6 years, every Christmas and Birthday. Then after 8 years of crap presents ~ I said 'what part of Ultimate BumbleBee Transformer don't you understand' ? (having printed out an image and put it on the shelf..
So she brought a Bumblebee transformer ~ gave it to me, I said did you keep the reciept? In frount of her, I brought the Ultimate transformer online , and told her to return it.
Sounds harsh ~ but you don't know my wife. Then she complains I don't use anything she buys me. I give up and buy it myself.
*SQUEE* it, my just buyt the firestation and a new record player. For my birthday I guess from her I will get a tie? (even though I have never worn a tie, yet have a box of 17 of them
