Hi, my name is Glen, and I am a ValiantAddict

Post by ValiantAddict »

In the 90's I laughed at those who were buying Valiant. I know not the best introduction to a first time poster, but a true statement none the less. Valiant was for the speculators, I saw people buying 10's of copies in hopes they would put their kids through college on these books. So I stayed as far away from Valiant as I could. through the next 20 years I continued to buy comics on again and off again, mostly DC, sometimes Marvel when DC was becoming stale and boring. So when I saw Valiant back on the shelves with XO Manowar, Harbinger, BloodShot and Archer and Armstrong, I had no interest what so ever. Then in late March of this year I found myself growing tired of the multiple Batman titles DC was putting out, the whole Batman family was the only thing I was buying at the time. I found myself thinking after 40 years, am I done with comics? Then someone asked me had I ever tried Valiant. I laughed a little to myself and said no, that's not my thing. He then asked me what my thing was, because Valiant has something for everyone. I started to do some online searches on Valiant and found an article entitled "Why I dropped DC for Valiant", and in this article he talked about a cohesive universe all in 9 books, heck I was buying more Batman titles then that. Then about that same time, I read about the Valiant First initiative, inside that article A promise was made to keep the company line at 9 for the foreseeable future. The more I researched the more I thought why not give it a try, I was really liking what I was reading and if the books were not good I am out 1 or 2 more months of books then walk away from the hobby. I remember walking into my LCS that night going to buy my first Valiant title. I t was the end of February and the only new book on the shelf was XO Manowar 22, a Unity aftermath. Great, I said to myself the last chapter of a story arc. I am going to be so lost. But I bought it anyway. I took it home and read it, and instead if being lost, I found myself intrigued. I read it a second time, then a third, and I thought to myself when was the last time I ever read a comic book more then once? Having so many unanswered questions first thing Monday morning I went back to my LCS and bought the first XO tpb. Read it and was in awe of how much better these stories were then what I was reading previously, Then I bought another XO trade, then a Harbinger. I was hooked, I dropped everything from my pull list and added all Valiant titles. I started buying back issues of the new VHI stuff every week, and in May just 2 months after my first ever Valiant title I put together a full set of VEI Valiant, no not every variant, but a set that I could read and get the whole story. I ended up giving my XO trade away to a friend and some of you might have read another article that was done on me on another site, but Valiant was very kind to me. They made a fan for life. I could go on rambling but I will end it with this. XO 22 will always be a special book for me, I had the chance to meet Robert Venditti in May and he knew my story already, so on a print of XO 22 that I had purchased he inscribed "You never forget your first" and I won't.

Cool story. Welcome to the boards. It's fun here as long as you avoid the Canadians like MarkRoseHFX. :kidaround:

"Addict" would probably be the correct word for many of us.

That's his one and only post. As you see, it became somewhat of a legendary thread.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Valiant. You have found a great community here on these boards. many of us are friends in real life thanks to connecting here on these boards and then meeting in the 'real world' so to speak. We are a close knit group with a real sense of togetherness. As far as VEI goes ... there isn't a better company out there in terms of quality of books, creativity of creators, commitment of the company and most importantly caring about their fans. Great story about meeting V-Ditti, he is one of the nicest guys in comics and a terrific creator, no doubt!

No doubt, I was given Artifact number 5 from V-Ditti, super guy even though I probably came across stalker like lol. I Have also met Matt Kindt another class act guy, now If Joshua Dysart ever comes to SC my Trinity of favorite writers will be complete.

Welcome to the board, VA. Pay heed to the childish remarks on this board as it is the only form of entertainment on the web worth watching.

As a fellow addict, I can relate but please, don't ever bring up that past again...ever. :thumb:
