Unfortunately, Evil Greg is toying with us because he knows that there was actually some debate about which Dead Universe slab could have been used to win.

Strictly speaking, that particular book shouldn't exist.

Birth of the Defiant Universe was 1,000 copies... all signed and numbered.

Of course, if you're going to print, sign, and number 1,000 books, you'll need some extras in case there are damages, smudges, etc.

What happens to unsigned and unnumbered extras is a different question, and whether they survive in CGC 9.9 condition is even further from likely.

It's probable that the vellum outer cover is much harder to damage, though, so the high condition is partially due to the vellum.

To date, CGC has only graded 15 copies of the book. 11 were signed and numbered from the 1,000, so there are 4 slabs which were from the "extras".

1 CGC 9.9, 2 CGC 9.8, and 1 CGC 9.8 with a signature series label because it was an unsigned copy that did get signed by Jim Shooter in 2008 with a CGC witness.

It looks like this:

This book currently lives with its brother... the 9.9.

Ahhh, that last post answered my question, about ownership of that book. I assumed it was you, Greg, but was going to ask anyway.

Miracle On Broadway in CGC 9.6 for sale on the Bay. I first noticed this on Defiant1's board.

X-omatic is offering a couple of Ultraverse Gold slabs. How rare are these?

I believe all of these (with the exception of the Prime Gold Hologram) were extremely limited. depluto probably will chime in eventually.

200 each of the gold Exiles, Prototype, Hardcase, Strangers, Prime, Freex and Mantra hologram covers, 5,500 of the Ultraforce cover. Silver holos were 5,000 each.

The gold holos are really, really rare, but the hardest to find in the wild are the Strangers, Hardcase and Prime books.

I knew he'd chime in. It was Ultraforce that wasn't as limited (not Prime) facepalm

The gold holos are hard to put a price on.

DP bought a bunch of Ultraforce gold hologram covers from Mile High Chuck once for $1.88 each.

The floor is moving up on those ... last few gold holos sold on eBay all broke $40. I think they are worth more than that. You'd really see some movement if Marvel ever decides to do anything with the Ultraverse.
