That's Really awesome, but the price seems pretty dang high for what it is.. Am I missing something?
I would have thought something post unity mass produced non key issue like that would be in the $300-$550 range at the absolute tops, and that only because it is a cool piece.

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

If someone wants to sell me nice post-unity covers for 300 to 500, I am buying all day long.

Re: FS: Rai and the Future Force #11 Cover Original Art
I agree. There's a lot of Valiant overpriced art out there (a quick look on ebay will show you), but I do not think this is the case. This arguably one of the best covers from a series that sported some great cover art by Sean Chen. I do not think you can even find any decent Acclaim cover for 300-500. I wish there were!

Re: FS: Rai and the Future Force #11 Cover Original Art
I think for Buy it Now, you are right. Most covers are priced $500+. However, they hardly ever sell in that range. They are just asking prices. I think sale prices are much lower. I bought 3 Rai covers in the last year and paid less than $300 for each of them. Of course, there are anomalies. Rai is hot right now as well with the new series.
When they come up, covers on Heritage auctions don't usually command that much either. Regular post-Unity covers can be had at $500 or less.

There's been a bunch of VH1 Covers for sale recently, on dealer sites and at auction. I'm not in the market for covers, but you guys that collect them must have been busy.
It seems like they generally sell for much less than covers from the latest VEI books. Sound right?

Re: FS: Rai and the Future Force #11 Cover Original Art
That's accurate. That's probably true for most art. The most current comic art tends to sell for more than older art. Of course, big artists will still sell for more (Kirby, BWS, Crumb, etc.). I also think artists are used to selling commissioned art for a certain price, and demand that. Once the art and title is stale, it drops in price.AnthonyF wrote:There's been a bunch of VH1 Covers for sale recently, on dealer sites and at auction. I feel as if your collecting and price desires cloud your data. It has been over a year since a Valiant cover appeared in a Heritage Auction, and of the four that appeared in the two years prior, one sold for 2000+, two in the 500+ range, and one at 450.
We all know a year is a very long time in collecting comics, and an even longer time, comparatively, with comic art.

So, I'm 75% right? What was the $2K cover?
My price desires are much lower than $350-500!

Re: FS: Rai and the Future Force #11 Cover Original Art
Thanks for the shout-out, but I have time and time again noticed that I don't really understand the market. This is higher than I have paid for similar items but also lower than what I see others pay for current covers that I don't want as much as I want this one.cornflakeboy wrote:I'd really like ti know what other valiant oa collectors such as magnusr and the such have to say about this
Just to say something, personally (if I bought this cover and had recovered from the big purchases this spring) I would not pay $1000.
On the other hand, if I had it and someone else wanted to buy it, I would ask more than $1000.
In short, I don't really have anything useful to add.

Yeah, it's up to each one. The seller sets his price and the buyers just have to decide how they feel. This is a very nice piece and I do expect it to find a buyer.cornflakeboy wrote:Somehow, I knew Dan and Magnus were going to say thatold school common sense rules

Ouch!
Good example. From Anthony Snyder's sales... but
I don't know Keith, but is it accepted here to call out sellers? In the sellers own thread?
I purchased some art through this forum, from collectors (Dealers?) that where likely at substancial markups. If you don't like the price, then pass on it.

First off, it is a cool cover.veronesepk wrote:

Next, not a call out so much as a friendly reminder to not be defensive about asking prices. Also proof that what the other buyers were suggesting, that the price was too high for that piece. They know they can pass on the piece; they were trying to be helpful. We all understand the desire to make money, even to buy and flip to an extent, but it should be reflective of the market. Sean Chen covers are selling in the 300-500 range, which isn't much more than they were selling for over a decade ago. This asking price doubled in 2 months time. It's post-Unity, not pre, and even tho Magnus is on the cover, that's not enough of an impetus to gain in value by that amount. I'm sure it will sell - it's a nice piece. But I don't think the demand is there to warrant that price tag.
This is also a good lesson in flipping - no matter what the object, it's darn easy in this day and age to research prices.
That said, if it was a piece I had and didn't particularly want to sell, I would set a high price as my "what it would take to get me to sell it" price.
Peace.

The cover is no longer for sale, and I'll be keeping my Valiant art on CAF/eBay in the future. Enjoy your arguments everyone.
