Way too many to "catch 'em all", but I see this as a sign of great growth for VEI since last year we only had 5 retailer exclusive (including the VF.com one!) covers. IIRC.
Whoa! I just saw there is a VF.com one this year! How do we get one of those, greg?

Not trying to rain on the parade, but it's my understanding that they also cut the minimum order to get a branded edition, so there may have been shops that would have met the reduced threshold last year if the details were the same.lorddunlow wrote:Way too many to "catch 'em all", but I see this as a sign of great growth for VEI since last year we only had 5 retailer exclusive (including the VF.com one!) covers. I'll be picking up just one from Collectors Paradise. (perhaps another from VF? need to look into that) not sure how i feel about trying collect them all. that's taking 44 (-1 for yourself) copies of free valiant publicity off the market.
I used to swarm the free book tables then realized i was elbow to elbow with demographics i usually don't see in my LCS. I've pulled way back on what i pick up. Better they get the books than me.

Now if that doesn't drive a stake through the heart of completionists, I don't know what will.
Good to see so many retailers want in on the magic, though.

OMG BBQ!
I believe the most difficult to get is the
Sketch Books aka Fully Booked FCBD Variant.
(632) 858-7000

632 is the International Dialing Country Code to the Philippines.
The number should have a +011 632 or +632
Why will be hard to get? Its because its from the PHILIPPINES!
(I'll be back in Manila this Summer to try to get these)
There's also several Canadian versions and 1 from the UK.

Ha ha, I just saw Sandy, the owner of Comic Odyssey, a couple of weeks ago. Our Pasadena store used to be one of his stores before he moved back, and we have been friends since I was an 18 year old kid going to his Valley store at Tampa and Roscoe.

Sandy! That store at Tampa and Roscoe brings back memories.
I used to go to SuperCuts right next door. (now its Fantastic Sams I think).. Al and Ed's Sound and Alarm are still there all these years.

I don't know the rules of what makes a completionist ... But I think they can take a pass on something like this. It's the same cover with different advertising - it's not like an exclusive variant cover. Get the VAliantfans.com version and your complete for this cover, IMO.

To me it seems...
Re-Donkerous.
I had quite, vague, faint dreams of one day snatching all the variants, now VEI can pound sand. That's how I feel.
After the Armor-All Shake-Up, the Death of Harbinger, Shadowman, the mixing of A&A/Q&A....
EW no where in sight...
BS going to Unity (really) and HC fading into the sunset...
Blah, Blug, Ugh, I'm pretty much sure I'm out.

Re: 45 FCBD Covers
I want a Valiant Fans.com, a Podcast and a Collector's Paradise one since Ed is the Bee's Knees (why is there two from Paradise?)
I'll try and get a couple of the Samurai ones from the local shop here.
Other than those a regular one will be fine.

Re: 45 FCBD Covers
This is the most infuriating post ever. Honestly, if you can't trust a publisher that they know what they are doing YOU ARE NOT A FAN! If you are frustrated because there are too many covers more so than the content of the books inside, YOU ARE NOT A FAN. So if you are out, I won't shed a tear, but really, you need to calm down a few steps.david_albuq wrote:To me it seems...

I don't understand this insistence on insulting your own Canadian heritage. Freud might have something to say about this.lorddunlow wrote:drmirage wrote: There's also several Canadian versions

That's it! If VEI is willing to do business with the Canadians, then I'm done with them!

As for the guy who expressed frustration, wanting to pound sand, about not being able to track down every variant, I can kind of relate. I'm a completist by nature, but I just have to breathe deeply and realize there is no way I can ever afford to be a VEI completist. Instead, I'll just get the complete story, and just get the covers I really like. I'm not going to hunt a variant unless I think it's a smoking hot, really cool cover. I did hunt a lot of the variants with people on this site and with ebay, but I only chose the covers that I really liked. It is a little frustrating for a completist but I live with it.
After all, even though I pretty much have a complete VH1 set, there's probably no way I'll ever see a Bloodshot 0 platinum error or the X0/Iron-Man EB variant that Greg found recently. But, other than that, my collection is pretty solid and I can live with that.
Again, with VEI, I can live with having the cool variant covers I like, and realizing that there are a lot of covers I will never get, and I'm not going to bother chasing them all down. It's tough, but I can breathe deeply and live with it.

Anyone who considers these a variant is crazy. It's not even different cover art. Heck, it's not even a real issue! it's preview pages and ads!
I understand the "completist" mentality, but if you feel like you need all 45 covers, you may want to seek professional help
