Magnus ... the Short version [for LatinaEyes]
Here is my take on Magnus, LatinaEyes.
Issues 1-4 - Steel Nation. The robots start acting on their own 'free will'. Magnus stops them, becomes a criminal.
5-8 - Invasion. Magnus vs. Rai.
He fights some robots.
12 - Turok story in the lost land. A true tribute to the Gold Key Magnus.
He fights more robots.
Unity happens, Magnus born.
he fights robots.
21 - Melve invasion begins.
Magnus fights robots.
Invasion ends.
Chaos effect
Birthquake
64- The series ends on a rather, 'what were they thinking'/Evangelion Episode 26, note. A major let down.
The 'LOVE story' ... Magnus loves Leeja. Magnus gets a thing for a robot. I think because the robot messes with his mind like a manipulative woman would do. Magnus' human lady cheats on him during the melve thing, she gives birth. I stopped reading the series. Keep in mind I have not read this series in its entirety.

there was a nice symmetry between magnus birth and rai #3's birth.
magnus was conceived from an infidelity, so was leeja and rai #2's baby
for me the malev war was the highlight...i loved seeing magnus do what he was trained to do...fight a s---load of robots.
and it was also nice to see him have to WORK for it...there was a purpose to the intense physical and mental training he underwent.
discounting the last 12 issues, i enjoyed magnus a lot. i didn't agree with a lot of the places they took the character or what decisions he made. but it was still readable...a lot of the older books weren't like that.

I gotta say the Malev wars didn't work for me on Magnus. The characters became warped beyond recognition. Magnus went from being able to take on armies of robots with his bare hands in the Shooter era to needing back-up to take down a dozen Malevs.cinlach@aol.com wrote:there was a nice symmetry between magnus birth and rai #3's birth.

And I finally realized why the parralel between Kris/Torque and Leeja/Rai didn't work. The characters were way too different. Different personalities. Different societies. Different circumstances. It made the Leeja/Rai thing stick out like a sore thumb. Plus the irony of the situation didn't mean anything to Magnus. If I recall correctly he never knew the circumstances of his conception or that much about his parents (Kris's letter to him in Magnus 25 was only a page long if I remember correctly).

I'd like to thank those of you who took the time to give me a brief summary of the stories in valiant.. It's really appreciated... I'd also like to say, as I posted in the other message board, I'd like to apologize to those of you I may have offended with my last statement about reading the books... It was not meant to offend anyone..
Don't forget to keep smiling. Makes people wonder what you're up to.
