Turok #2....

Post by Aomalle27 »

ugh, this just reeked of horribleness, not sure if I wanna continue with the arc. Muddled story, weird concept of knight Templar domesticating dinosaurs. Would've preferred they came up with (well stole) the concept of the lost land, where dinos and people coexist. This makes me question the Magnus title releasing next week, wondering if its' just as bad.

I have yet to read the second issue but it was quite surprising to me that french-speaking knights of John Lackland showed up. The original Turok was set many years later.

My comic guy put Turok #2 with my stack of books today. I put it back on the shelf without even looking at it.

I'm disappointed to hear this on top of hearing what an awful company Dynamite is. I love all these characters and count them as some of my favorites of all time.

I'm hoping that one day someone will get a hold of the gold key properties and treat them right again.

Kind of like Richard Gere did for Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

Dang bro, you need to get on this. Women love this movie (based on my wife and some previous GFs), and Julia Roberts is SMOKING hot in this movie.

Get the director's cut, it's much more raw and real. The first conversation they have is about STDs and her safety measures. I can't speak from experience, but that seemed real to me, would certainly be the first topic of conversation for me :-)

That's a big +1 here. I can't stand Richard Gere. Not big on Julia Roberts either.

You need to start on Pretty Woman so you can work up to the more powerful and mind-altering stuff like the Steel Magnolias and Beaches. Seriously guys, get on it.

I've actually never seen it either but know the general story. However, I'm sure if you introduced dinosaurs to the mix, it would be a much better film.

Julia Roberts was just 21 when they filmed Pretty Woman. It's a solid flick and holds up. But it's not "must watch to understand women" like say...Dirty Dancing is.

I almost got lynched while watching Steel Magnolias with a group of girls back in college. It started out as a comedy and I fell asleep. Woke up, everyone was crying. Never having seen it, I was like, "What...did XXX die or something?" And yeah--they had. They started bawling more and ran me out of the dorm for insensitivity.

Seriously didn't know...

I saw a college-drama club production of Steel Magnolias instead of the movie.

All this talk of these chick flicks like Steel Magnolias reminds me of Fried Green Tomatoes, I swear everyone watched that movie a hundred times when it came out and I still don't understand the appeal of that movie, at all.

ON-TOPIC: The concept of time-traveling Crusaders showing up in the New World and attacking Turok's tribe is a cool concept, it's just badly executed here. Like they were really trying to go a new direction with Turok by maknig him a haunted outcast and exile from the tribe, making Andar the same age and a huge *SQUEE* to him, etc. But it doesn't work. I'd say these two issues have been worse than the first two issues of the Dark Horse reboot by far. I actually really liked that reboot's concept (maybe because it was way more simplistic than this one's origin--Turok just shows up as he's traveling the world, established to be a badass, saves Andar from some Aztecs, they all get sucked into the lost land, etc.), too bad it went to crap. Now, at this level, it will be better than the other two issues in that series which had terrible art and plotting, but it's stilll not really what I think anyone wants from a Turok comic.

The only reason I've seen Steel Magnolias is that it was filmed in my mom's home town while I was going to college there. It's also where I currently work. The guy who wrote it is from here and it's based on a true story about his family. For the movie, they used a lot of locals as extras. So watching it was more about identifying people mom knew and the landmarks around town and talking about some of the "behind-the-scenes" stories we've heard than actually watching the movie. I have a distant cousin that was Dolly Pardon's chauffeur during filming. I lived a couple houses down from what was her house in the movie. And I pass by the house that was the Sally Field/Julia Roberts family house almost daily. There's "Steel Magnolias" memorabilia everywhere in town. All the restaurants have pictures of the cast members visiting, etc. It's almost sickening.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Well--the one other memorable thing about Steel Magnolias is that each of the main characters has a slightly diff. southern accent. So it's useful for aspiring actors to watch to hear the differences in a Georgia vs. North Carolina vs. Alabama accent, etc.

Only film I can remember that has that level of distinction.

I've never heard a Louisiana accent in any movie set in Louisiana. It's typically a Georgia or Alabama accent. The closest was Farmer Fran in The Waterboy.

Yup. Louisiana truly has a dialect. It is almost unintelligible to an outside observer.
