Armor Hunters: the VEI summer '14 miniseries&crossover event

Post by Captain Craig »

So I'm stoked, really stoked now reading this. There are all kinds of implications.
First off: Aric's XO suit is just one of potentially others in the universe!!!

The Armor Hunters are a "containment unit", "cops", scavengers who knows but this looks awesome!!
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=49785" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"X-O Manowar" #25 is going to be a really big issue, not just because of the significance of the 25th issue being an anniversary of sorts for Valiant, but also in the sense that for a very long time, people have been asking about the origin story of the armor. Where does the armor come from? How is it able to do what it does? .......Spinning out of that, you're going to realize that just as there is actually more than one suit of X-O Manowar armor in the universe, we're actually going to come to realize there's an entire army of hunters who do nothing but go after these things and destroy them for their own reasons. That's where the Armor Hunters come in.......One thing I would say is something I always try to keep in mind as I've been developing this series over close to three years is that the name of the book is "X-O Manowar," and that's the armor. It's a story about the armor. Aric is the guy that's wearing it, so he's the main character, but it's always been a story about the armor, and we're going to find out exactly why that's the case beginning with issue #25.

So 82 views and two modest, if excited, responses.

The other 80 people aren't as excited and/or curious about next summers event or they aren't XO fans? Odd.

Oh boy this is gonna be truly awesome,I can't wait to see who these armor hunters are and what they can do(and given what they hunt they are bound to be pretty up there in the power or skill scale)as well as their backgrounds, where they come from and what the XO armors did to them(I think it did topple their civilisation as it did the the Vine's and the pone that used the aforementionned vines as slaves)But most of all I want to know where the XO Armors come from and what their purpose might be(for some reason I can't shake off the idea of archer having something to do with the armors one way or another)as well as what of kind of stuff the armors' reators left behind(or use if they are stil around, heck they could not even exist yet and be from the future or A future).

On CBR this post got 216 views but only 4 replies, while a Dark Horse superhero event got 17 posts, wheres the Valiant excitement these days?

I'm trying not to spoil my summer fun by reading six months in advance about what's coming. I find this aspect of the industry a little annoying.

Most of the VALIANT supporters on CBR post here now. I don't even post much over there anymore.

I try to make time to make a few posts there cause that site does get on occasion various industry professionals. This site is great for VALIANT focused fans already on the wagon but CBR is where we can hope to get the occasional lurker hopefully interested in picking up a title or two.
Dropping away entirely could give a sense of lack of interest in VEI, I don't won't to give that impression.

The fact is this is a pretty active forum. I frequent a lot of other fora, and none are as active as this one. Some topics fly, some don't. Some spawn multiple threads seemingly ad infinitum (witness DE and Gold Key...).
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Unless they're in flashbacks, I wouldn't get my hopes up. One of the interviews/solicits said Shanharra was the last one.

But didn't she grow on a tree? Mustn't there be another armor growing tree somewhere in the Valiant Universe?

Kidding of course, the XO 11 origin story is no more than the Vine Priests religious re telling of the origin of the armor, and I don't take it literally at all :-)

No, that's actually a fair question. So Shanhara is potentially the last "active" armor.

Yeah I agree. I think there is truth to the Tree Origin.

We know the Faraway has an environment that we can presume to be both organic and technologically advanced.

We know shanhara is alive.

So it coming from some genetically modified plant from the far future would seem to fit.

Actually, that's a great point... all the trees in the Faraway are made of metal or crystal. So an armor tree would actually make sense there. Hmm...

Oooooh, cool idea guys. I'm thinking that is a real possibility.

I remember someone speculated that the Wanderer in XO 11 was Ivar, and that a Vine had never successfully worn the armor. Ivar being the wanderer would support the XO armor coming from a tree in the faraway. Hmm.

Um, did anyone else notice in that blurb (I'm assuming by V-Ditti) that he said the title is about the X-O armor, and NOT Aric. Anyone think Aric might be getting written off somehow during this? Someone else becoming X-O?

Well the book is called "XO Manowar" not "Aric of Dacia." It sort of makes sense, though, because it is the Armor that is really the center of the story. Aric may be steering it, but it's the armor that allows the humans to escape, brings Aric to Earth, brings the Vine invasion to Earth, destroys the Vine fleet, "frees" the slaves and the Vine on Loam, and allows Aric to claim Romania. Now it's the. Armor that the hunters come after.

We have discussed scenes that might give us a clue on the relationship of the armor to Aric and where it might come from. The scene in which Aric comes back to earth in the present day and the armor downloads the history of the world up until that point (in regards to Dacia and the fate of the Visigoths) is an interesting clue

IMO, this indicates that the armor is from future Earth.

It was created on Earth with all the history and the knowledge from this world built into its DNA

There are other possibilities ... like a wireless supercomputer it could have just sucked in the knowledge of this world as it entered our atmosphere

But Shanhara coming from future earth (VIA the faraway) is making too much sense

If this is true ... it does bring up another interesting thread that is full of potential time paradoxical issues.

If Shanhara IS alive ... and is from the future

Will it try to guide Aric to changing the course of "future" history?

An Ivar and X-O story arc is a MUST ... it will be very interesting to see what Ivar says about Shanhara when they meet :hm:
