What I am missing..
I am just sitting here getting caught up on the board and was just thinking about what I loved about VH1 and what i love about the relaunch. Being a collector I am missing the "sneaky" 1st app. that they used to do in VH1. I know they had Gilad in X-O 1 and loved that! I think that the Ninjak and Dr. Eclipse app are missing. It made it really fun to pick up the book every month and wonder who was next. We had that brief excitement when the previews came out and it was speculated that it was Erica Pierce. I really liked those times and would relish having new characters pop up so we didn't know them. That's all thank you for reading.

I think I'm starting to get bored with Valiant...
Re: What I am missing..
There's a stark difference between now and 20 years ago. Today every last detail in a book is previewed, teased, announced, spoiled or marketed ahead of time to ramp up sales. There's almost no such thing as "sneaking" anything into a book anymore. By the time a book hits the stand there is no surprising anyone. It's just different.

Re: What I am missing..
it's because of the internet. I am pretty sure that had there been an active online community then, Valiant would be releasing these advance information to get a jump on those who would leak first appearances.tchalla8 wrote:There's a stark difference between now and 20 years ago. Also, the comparison is apples and oranges. Why would Valiant in 1990s tease everybody about the first appearance of a character who does not have an established fanbase when nobody knows him/her yet? It's a literal first appearance of a character and it would be stupid to make noise about characters that people are not yet invested in! In today's VEI, why should they be mum about the first appearance of Ninjak and Dr. Eclipse when these characters have an established fanbase who are eagerly waiting for the return of the characters?
The proper comparison is if VEI publicizes the literal first appearance of new characters. They don't. Did they make a lot of noise about the first appearance of Cronos? Of Mary-Maria?

Re: What I am missing..
I thought they had the chance to do this with Doctor Mirage, but the news was released about her appearance the day before the issue hit stands.
Of course we had Neville Alcott, and we've had various Psiots/Harbingers/Egg-Breakers from VH1 reappear, just not that "big name" other than Gilad in XO #1.
Of course it's possible we've seen Rai and just don't know it yet.

Re: What I am missing..
I'm still holding out for my Clem being Rai theory... I firmly believe Harada has Clem and will introduce the nanites into his body to regenerate what's missing which will eventually turn Clem into Rai (perhaps in the 4001 timeframe), initially I can see him being an agent of Harada's before evolving into something else for the 4001 stories.BugsySig wrote:I thought they had the chance to do this with Doctor Mirage, but the news was released about her appearance the day before the issue hit stands.
