NYCC, the adventure

Post by Labtech1 »

FIRST we had a GREAT time! I went to NYCC 2013 with my son and we had an awesome day of fun an adventure, with Valiant playing a huge role in it.

Our day began with seeing Stan "the man" Lee bolting through the the Con floor, I didn't know a 90 year old could move that fast. Next stop, yup, VALIANT. Thanks to Sir Sandrick, I had made up a Torque hat to wear, and when I approached the booth I instantly began getting compliments on it.

Matt Waite was there, and man it was a pleasure to meet him. The man behind the 8-bit covers was nothing but a great guy to meet. He began talking to my son about how he played video games that looked like this when he was his age (5). I had him sign my sketch book and he was nice enough to do a quick sketch of Flamingo. While I was looking around they put out the 8-bit covers for Bloodshot and Hardcore #15, yup, even Matt was surprised to see them, I immediately bought one and had him sign it for me.

We walked around a bit and came back to meet Fred, while we were waiting Tom Fowler popped in the booth talked with ATOM! and said out loud "well I'm not going to stay, but if someone wants something signed I'll do that". You didn't have to ask me twice, to the trusty sketch book we go, I asked him for a signature and he provided me with a Quantum head and signature.

My son stared watching as Brain was working in Photoshop rendering a new Harbinger book. it was great to see him bring the pages to life. I think ATOM! had him chained to the table though

Fred showed up a little later, and I immediately started to gush about how I love Archer and Armstrong, bought a Comic Con exclusive A&A 14, and had him sign it. He was also gracious enough to sketch in my book and sign it.

We went down to artist alley to talk to Clayton Henry and I locked up like a little boy and could only profess my love for his art and my excitement about him doing Harbinger. I didn't get him to sign anything or buy anything... facepalm

When we got back up stairs, Dino and the whole Valiant crew were there, and I couldn't help but tell him how much I appreciate the books and how the Valiant universe got me back into comics. I was asked by the whole crew if I would be attending the panel later. I explained that my son (5 years old) would be the determining factor on that but we hoped to be there. Dino turned to my son and said something like, get food and drinks, whatever you want dad will get, thanks dino. :o I also couldn't help asking him if the company could improve the cover paper, which he seemed to know exactly what I was talking about, and pulled over the man in charge of the printing aspects. He asked me a bunch of questions and we talked for a while. I have to say it made me feel good that a company was not only willing to hear a concern but wanted to know what I as a consumer wanted, and was looking for. :cloud9:

Mr. Chris Cross was the next man up. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about this man he showed up running late but when he sat down he didn't rush he started right up with stories and talking about artists and comics. We waited and watched him draw a great bloodshot, and while we watched he turned to my son and started talking art and how to draw, "See look, we all need ears this is how you draw them out". When he was done he asked what he could draw for me, and then made the suggestion to draw my son as Bloodshot...we both agreed that would be a bit creepy, and of course that's exactly what I had him do  (PS in the photo look for ATOM! "bombing" the photo.)

We made it to the panel, and it was great to hear where Valiant is heading and how they decided to go in the directions they are going. When the panel concluded they gave us a "secret" word to whisper at the booth for a special surprise. My son took charge and dragged me back to the booth almost running, and the whole time whispering to himself "unity", which was the secret word. When we got to the booth my son whispered, "unity" to ATOM!, and he promptly handed him a gold Quantum and Wood. My son was so excited, I asked him for the book so I could put it away and keep it safe, his response was "NO, it's mine! I said the word."

We had such a great time and I wanted to thank all the board members that I go to meet and the Valiant crew. Valiant really played a HUGE part in our great time, and I can't wait until the next time I get to meet up with this great community again. :high-five:

Pictures to follow...

Thanks so much for sharing. For those of us who couldn't make it, it gives us a flavor of what was there. Congrats to you and your son, new newest Bloodshot :thumb:
