Trademarks and copyrights are different.

The characters and stories that we know as Solar, Man of the Atom are copyrights. They belong (at least in part) to Valiant.
No one could bring back Valiant's Solar, Man of the Atom characters and stories without Valiant's permission.

The words/title "Solar, Man of the Atom" are a trademark.
An all new Solar, Man of the Atom, unrelated to the Valiant version is allowed with a trademark.
Anything resembling the Valiant version of characters and stories would require the copyrights.

If Valiant isn't involved, then by law, everything Dynamite does will have to be either Gold Key stories or new stories.
They can call it "Solar, Man of the Atom" with a trademark, but they can't tell Valiant's "Solar, Man of the Atom" stories without Valiant's copyright permission.

being on this board for a while and more importantly being around the comics for decades I've seen and heard some of the more shall we say shady dealings that have gone on there. I have no problem with the company trying to make money and build itself off as long as you do it above board and fairly. That's not something that they can say truthfully. I understand this is a small market you have to do what you have to do but I also think that when you screw people over and do things that are less than ethical you deserve the reputation that you get.I don't think there's much more reason for me to go into detail but that is the gist of it.

Dino's beats around the bush a lot when talking about the VIP debacle and has indicated that he discovered a lot of helpful info about which he bound to secrecy by the courts. He also seems to be running a very tight ship and steering VEI in all the right directions. I really think this Dynamite thing may end up being a good thing for VEI in the long run. We shall see...

Aside from a 10-year hiatus from the mid-90s until the mid-2000s, I've been reading comics for years. I haven't paid much attention to Dynamite, aside from trying out Lone Ranger & Zorro (They were OK). I'd check out a few other DE titles, via the 25-cent bin and such, but was rarely impressed.

I never heard nor read anything about shady dealings involving the company. I assume they didn't pay some creators what they were supposed to?

They were *possibly* linked to an attempt to claim the VALIANT properties (or possibly trademarks only) for essentially nothing; the links though circumstantial, looked pretty persuasive.

They do have a solid history of lateness on books as well, which is a less than endearing quality.

Finally, they do have a tendency to hop from property to property, with proliferation of books before dropping and moving on.

That said, I do enjoy the Project Superpowers stuff (which kind of died out for a couple of years, before a new mini in the last few months). Plus, what are the odds of Alex Ross covers on those books...?

i think a lot of the beef with them that members here have is that all signs point to them being VIP who cost VEI lots of headache and legal costs because they claimed to have the trademarks of all of the Valiant characters. The "Sneak Peak" that Chiclo has a horde of was their attempt to prove that they had "intent to use" the characters.

Dynamite was sued by the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=37044" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dynamite takes orders, takes money, doesn't deliver product, doesn't answer phone.
http://boards.collectors-society.com/ub ... 53&fpart=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dynamite was the 2005 "company" that stalled the return of Valiant by attempting to register trademarks belonging to Valiant characters.
They called themselves "VIP" and hid behind their lawyer for two years.

That's three strikes... how many do they get? :P

Just a quick note... these topics about Dynamite are in the General VALIANT Discussion section of the board.

Once the "new" of the discussion wears off, I'll move them to the NON-Valiant section of the board, where they belong. :D

The paper trail does not lie in this case. VIP (Dynamite/Dynamic Forces) first strike a deal With VEI for merch (Shows the kind of stand-up character that's running the VEI ship, i'd be alot less forgiving) and now this...Unless it's good for VEI count me out on this one.

Writers have freelanced at more than one publisher for years. VEI have their own deal with DE.

No conflict really.
