Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
Awesome book, but sadly the phrase "written for the trade" comes to mind heavily when I think of this series. Still it's pretty cool and the art is awesome in all places

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
I liked this one so much better than the last one. Probably had something to do with Crain's involvement

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
This issue was awesome. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Gilad and Xaran as its a familiar father / daughter relationship but with thousands of years of history together. Clayton Crain's artwork was great as usual and did a wonderful job of separating different timelines in the story. I also enjoyed how two stories about the same character told simultaneously eventually tied in together at the end. Gilad holding a grudge against the Earth for following her path blindly for so long was a nice twist as well. This issue had alot, and it was wonderful.

Just read issue #2 and wow. First the art was a 10 and the dialog was great. I just want more. I guess you can say its written for the trade but I like what we got in this issue. I truthfully always want more from a single comic issue so there is no pleasing me there. The latest Shadowman issue was a standalone issue and though it was a good read from start to finish it didn't leave me wanting the next issue at all. Yea it was awesome to see Dr Mirage but that wasn't enough to make me want to hang around. But this isn't about Shadow man. Eternal Warrior has me hooked and i cant wait to learn more about him and what the mother and child he spared. The Earth wanted them dead for a reason.

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
Wow, what a fantastic follow-up to the first issue which I was a little ambivalent about. The art was breath taking, I spent minutes on each page just drinking it all in.
The inner monologue was great, these solo character books really benefit from that.
I mentioned in another thread that I didn't find X-O to be a 'surprising' book, and this book is exactly what I'm talking about. The Earth wants an Indian tribe dead? Why? Did those two he let go repopulate their blood line?
And not only has Gilad turned his back on the Geomancers but now he's declaring war on the Earth?
What does it mean? Who are these Houses? What has Gilad broke? And Xaran broke some kind of covenant with them?
Great issue!

Just finished reading this issue
Just wanted to hop on here quick to echo the positive feedback in this thread
Pak is an impressive writer; i thought he did a great job once again of fleshing out Gilad and building up this contentious relationship with his daughter.
The art was strong throughout
8.5/10

Great issue. Awesome art by Crain and Hairsine. Fantastic dialogue by Pak. "Actually I'm Sumarian...we take the whole head." Amazing.
While I liked the first issue, this one really grabbed me. 9/10 only because of the decompression in the present. The flashback was unbelievable.

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
Great storytelling by both the writer and the artists. I'm echoing others' sentiments, but my curiosity is peaked. The houses, the wild (are they enforcers for the houses), and the role of the earth - is it just another tyrant? Why would it want an entire tribe slaughtered?
I am enjoying the depiction of Gilad. He loves to fight, and his own internal admission of the joy he gets from it is chilling, yet he is definitely a man with a moral code. Interesting.
I wonder what his daughter did to offend the houses. Notice that she cannot take responsibility herself - it's her father's mess. His fault. I hope she finally sees the light before she gets cut down (you know it's coming).
Looking forward to watching this unfold.

Same!
I really didn't like issue 1 very much although it DID set things up... as an issue it felt like a really sorry appetizer, but issue 2...
This was a phenomenally written issue that actually makes me like Gilad's character and I am very interested in where this is going. So SO much of an improvement on a book that I want to like as much as the others. I hope that Shadowman follows suit-
I was VERY impressed by how this issue exceeded my expectations!

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
Liked this issue so much more than #1. Echo chamber time. Great story and I'm loving how they are shaking up stuff from what the original premise was. Are the Wild one of the houses? If that guy was the Sword of the Wild like Gilad was the Sword of the Earth, shouldn't he be immortal and get back up too? Or is the fracture into the different houses only after Gilad quit back during the 1800's and the Earth had to deal with recruiting mortals since Gilad was refusing to do his job? So many questions and so few pages of comic.
As for the art, I'm kind of 'meh' about it. Not a big fan of Hairsine to begin with, but his style works better here in EW than in any other Valiant book I've seen him on. Crain's work was good though. I'll put up with the art to get the story though.
Looking forward to issue 3 & 4... and especially to issue 5 now that we have yesterdays big news on that!

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
With so many people (myself included), enjoying this issue more so than #1, I wonder if this would have made a better opening issue.
With a few minor adjustments to the present day story line, it would have been pretty easy. The Sumeria flashback from issue 1 could have been used to clarify Gilad and his daughter's relationship in issue 2 after introducing us to Gilad's mindset, the Geomancer and the Houses in issue 1 through the Civil-War era flashback.

Excellent point!
Really enjoyed this issue, so much more than the first one. I'm buying into the series now! I like how the geomancers are crazy wizards for the earth, and there seem to be other wizards for other houses. And man, the art was great!

Lock him up with an exclusive contract. Then have him do all of the flashback (or in the case of Bloodshot, false memory) scenes.tchalla8 wrote:And this is how you use two artists on a book. Crain is a stud.

Re: Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
this one felt more like a #1 than the previous issue, but I think it was the Civil War flashback that actually got things rolling. last issue's Sumerian flashback introduced the characters but took a lot of space not really doing much, and again in this issue, very little seems to have happened in the present. still a great book, but my fear is that the story will have to wrap up too soon for them to ever get away from Gilad's shack in the present.

That's a fair point, personally I loved this issue but when you think about it not too much actually happened, plot wise. I imagine the next two issues will put more emphasis on the present than the pastmateo107 wrote:my fear is that the story will have to wrap up too soon for them to ever get away from Gilad's shack in the present.

Eternal Warrior #2 Discussion
Great issue! I'd echo everyone but that would be redundant.
Gilad dropped his sword in front of the mother and son (the Indians). The Indian boy with fire in his eyes and a knife in his right hand immediately reached for the sword with his left hand as Gilad walked off, abandoning his post. I think this Indian boy, or his lineage, become the sword wielding horsemen that now pursue Gilads daughter. Earth knew they would become these servants of the wild, so Earth wanted them dead.
Am I right?
Did anyone else feel that in their gut as they read this issue?

Yep, I even looked at the swords for similarity, but Gilad's looked like a short sword and the one the 'Sword of the Wild' had looked like a two hander. But this may have been a flunkie and the big bad guy of the arc will be the one with that sword Gilad left behind. THAT, I could definitely see happening.Carson wrote:Great issue!
