What is up with the weird Neal Adams covers? He's an iconic artist. This cover and the A&A incentive cover he did are just not anywhere near as good as his typical work.

I think he might have fried his brain...I have no real information about him personally, but much of what I read and hear makes me wonder if he is suffering from the effects of long-term drug use. 100% pure speculation, but it just seems that way.

So, I'm now wondering if I need to make sure my LCS doesn't order all of these for me. His standing rule for VEI with me is order any variant he is able to get (which has meant the pullbox covers as he doesn't order enough for the incentives covers). However, I don't need 6 covers for one comic at $3.99 a pop.

If they are going to do 5 pullbox covers there should have been some kind of a theme, maybe each one could have featured a different single character (XO, Ninjak, Eternal Warrior, Harada and Livewire) in a dynamic pose or action shot by a different artist. A lot of them are the 5 characters just standing there like they are waiting for a bus with little or no backgrounds including the Sears variant. Kudos to Foreman for at least giving us an innovative design.

I think the cover I like least is the Hitch cover, it just feels like they're trying to steal a crumb from Marvel's plate and Hitch stopped being good a long time ago. That said I'm sure that is the cover they paid the most for.

A really impressive cover would have been BWS, I wonder why they couldn't make that happen?

Oddly enough, I would love a cover of all them just standing at a bus stop, waiting for a bus. That would be hilarious!

The order of preference for me when it comes to the covers

1) Crain - another awesome cover by him. Very Iconic looking. This is one I would love to have a poster of.
2) Hitch - I love the action of this cover. Love the fighting in space and the mechanical arms. Its a gatefold cover too.
3) Rivera - big fan of his. I like the clean style - I think he strikes a nice balance between cartoony and realism.
4) Foreman - Very interesting composition and layout
5) Braithwaite - Solid cover. Livewire looks hot. But EW looks very decrepit ... he's old but he's not supposed to age
6) JG Jones - love the way XO is looking down at the other 4 .. but not digging on the way the other characters look.
7) Adams - Aric looks a little harsh looking. But I like the reflections off the helmet/suit
8) Sears - its ok ... but a little bland
9) adams (BW sketch) - without the cool reflection its pretty rough

yeah i agree with a lot of what your saying here. It would have made sense to create a theme - some of the covers feel redundant.

I do like the Hitch cover though. I didn't like it at first either .. but the action intrigues me.

I think you are getting 4 of them, with a slight variation on the Jones cover (Aric is the bus the other 4 were waiting for on that cover).

I kid, I kid (sort of) :|

yeah, right.

this is getting way to 90s for my taste...

If you are so confident in the material you shouldn't need 9+ variant covers to sell it.

That is a good point. Who are we? Dynamite? Hell no! We have confidence in Valiant's product. Valiant produces quality comics, not borderline softcore uninspired comics that are so late by the fifth issue we can't remember what was going on in the first place. This abundance of covers is certainly unexpected and by a degree that is out of character.

Even the worst of the 1990's only had 5 covers (e.g. Jim Lee X-men #1)!

Yeah, this is variant madness.

Read Avengers #96 tonight, Neal Adams was awesome in his heyday. The X-O cover isn't that bad... I think I like it more than the a&A 1:100...

He's not drawing many comics these days. Adams is willing to work for a paycheck, while BWS lives by a different sort of principles.

Though I would love to see BWS's take on VEI!
