Solson Publications

Post by Chiclo »

Solson Publications was an excellent example of what was wrong with the black and white glut in the mid-80s. Gary Brodsky, son of Sol Brodsky (thus the name Solson - "Sol's son") launched this publisher and went into overdrive, flooding shelves with more poor quality TMNT ripoffs. Of greatest note, Jim Lee's professional debut as an inker was in the Solson Christmas Special: Samurai Santa. This is a list that I have meant to compile for a couple of years but never did. The more I learned about the company, the more I understood how little they contributed to the hobby.

Most of the books from Solson were crap, but I own quite a few of them, if only for novelties' sake.

I mean, how cool is Reagan's Raiders?

I also have quite a few of the TMNT books, have to think they will continue to grow in value as all early Turtles stuff is going crazy price-wise.

I have a few others, including Jim Lee's first book. I sometimes see dealers trying to sell that as a wall book at conventions, but they never seem to sell them. :P

I was quite interested a couple of years ago in learning more about Solson. That was, until I actually learned more about Solson.

Reagan's Raiders really looks like the only interesting book in the whole bunch. And I am sure it is horrible too.
