Mayo Report: Valiant Remains Steady

Steady wins the race...The Valiant titles continue to sell within the ballpark of each other giving that publisher a uniquely strong average sales level. The use of "Harbinger Wars" as a bridge crossover miniseries between "Harbinger" and "Bloodshot" seems to have been successful move. Valiant continues to be a publisher to watch as it enters the second year of publishing. Average sales around 12,500 units might not seem very impressive until you compare it to the sales averages for the other publishers in the top 300. Valiant had the fourth highest average sales behind the 17,231 unit average for Image, the 33,621 unit average for DC and the 38,731 unit average for Marvel. Not bad for a company that's only a year old.

Damn...Image has been kicking *SQUEE* too...it wasn't long ago VALIANT's average sales were 3rd highest...not a knock on VALIANT, just noting that Image is killing it lately too.

I have to *SQUEE* on everyone's parade simply because you're all in the parade. Valiant needs better sales than 12,500... it costs how much to make a comic book? $15-20,000 per issue? I worry about the future of Valiant because I want the numbers to go up.

Re: Mayo Report: Valiant Remains Steady
Someone has high aspirations. Wanting Valiant, barely a year into publishing, to be in the Top 3 for average sales already? #4 is great, you should be happy for that considering it released it's first book last May.Knob Row wrote:I have to *SQUEE* on everyone's parade simply because you're all in the parade. Re: Mayo Report: Valiant Remains Steady
Valiant isn't going anywhere. Other companies with worse numbers than this have stayed in existence for years, so I don't think there's any imminent threat to worry about.cdgodin wrote:Someone has high aspirations. Didn't you guys hear? Valiant folded months ago. Forbidden Planet said so. There was a chart and everything. I was quite despondent.tchalla8 wrote:Valiant isn't going anywhere. Re: Mayo Report: Valiant Remains Steady
No idea how much it costs to make a comic, but VEI has the 4th highest sales per issue in the industry. I think its safe to say they need to have more monthly titles but clearly other companies are able to sustain themselves on fewer sales per issue.Knob Row wrote:I have to *SQUEE* on everyone's parade simply because you're all in the parade. Re: Mayo Report: Valiant Remains Steady
MY LCS talks frequently about declining sales - Saga in particular was one of his references.
Here's the link:
http://pittsburghcomics.com/2012/12/13/ ... a-huh-wha/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Essentially, he describes the demand for Saga falling throughout its run from 48 copies sold - to at issue 7 - 25 issues sold - and waiting on issue 8. He said that nearly every comic is falling. Throughout its run.
If a comic sells consistently - it's a win.
If it can increase. It's a BIG win.
