Trade Paperback question

Post by MrBigFeathas »

I have been thinking about switching over to trade paperbacks lately. Being a huge Spidey fan the whole Superior Spider-Man thing has really brought me down on the whole for comics. I actually considered stopping completely. As I get older I realize that I buy a comic, read it once, throw it in a bag and board and file it away 99% of the time never to be looked at again. I was thinking if I had trade paperbacks I would probably be more willing to re-read them as they are far more accessible.

Anyway, my question is will Valiant most likely put every single issue into TPB somehow? Like will Harbinger Wars get a TPB? Will the #0 issues be included in TPBs? Will the upcoming Unity event be in TPB? I assume yes, but I don't know for sure. Trade paperbacks would be cheaper, and easier to read for me but I would be waiting longer to read the stories. I did consider digital but I'll never pay for them without at least owning a digital file.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

There was a topic started on this previously. No one knows, but most of us hope that there will be. I would think that they would but you never know.

I would think so. Publishers these days know how key trades are to getting new readers and that some people wait for the trades. For a newer company, I would think VEI would be smart to include everything.

I can't imagine it's possible to get every single X-Men comic over the last 50 years in trade. But for a company that started publishing again in 2012 in today's market, I would think they will collect everything.
Black Science. Lazarus. Birthright. Saga. Manifest Destiny. Deadly Class.

I would think every issue will end up in trade form eventually. We will have to wait (though not long I think) for Harbinger Vol 2 to be solicited to see if Harby #0 is included.

At the very least, VEI was testing the waters not long ago to see if readers would be interested in "ultimate" collections of the first year or so of each title packed with extras. If that is the case, I would expect Harby 0-10, or even 0-14, to be a collection for example. We might even get a Harbinger Wars collection that includes the main series and the Harbinger and Bloodshot tie-ins. If they do go that rout, I would be all over them.

To be honest, I'm not that sure about whether or not Unity and HW will get TPBs or not being miniseries, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they do get collected into a TPB.

With HW especially, I think it'd be amazing if they collected the Bloodshot/Harbinger/HW issues in continuity. Although I'm picking up the comics, I can imagine that'd be a very nice book to read.

As for what you want to do... Just do what you think will work best for you. Sounds like buying trades seems as though it might be the way if you're already thinking that you'd be more inclined to pick them up and read them more than reading each issue separately. Consider digital. Whatever works for you.

I've been getting the single comics as they come out for Shadowman, Bloodshot, and all the Harbinger Wars x-overs. I am probably going to get trades of A&A vol.2 (in time for EW #1 ongoing) and Harbinger vol 1 & 2 seeing as I loving Harbinger in the HW x-over.

For titles I dont collect from Valiant I'll go down the TPB path (I expect Q&W and perhaps EW).

Cant wait for PLANET DEATH as a TPB to be announced. I stopped getting the monthly as I want this as in a single volume.

I'm about 99.999% sure there will be at least a separate Harbinger Wars TPB.

There MIGHT be a collected version of all the Harby Wars tie-ins, but it's not especially LIKELY...

I assume the zero issues will be in the volume 3 TPBs of their respective series.

As for TPBs, I have them in TPB. I like TPB--it feels like a full story arc, usually, and they're much easier to transport around and read than individual issues which are a bit of a pain to reread, really.

Although for me there is also the aspect that it is literally impossible to find Valiant in print in any actual brick-and-mortar store. I've been ordering the TPBs off of Amazon. I read the issues digitally as they come out (having them digitally also makes it easier to reread them).

Actually it already was solicited (in the back of Vol 1) and clearly states issues #5-8(or 9) same thing for X-O Vol 3, Planet Death which runs from #9-14) so they're looking to go more than four issues at a time, and to cover story arcs instead which is cool.

I asked about the zero issues as well, who knows what's going to happen, I'm just going to have to make a run into the LCS and pick up the issues that I think might be awhile before they show up in TPB form.

And while I'm still waiting on my Valiant Masters Shadowman HC to be listed on Amazon so I can (pre) order it.

In the back of Vol 2. they list Planet Death as Vol 3. I didn't pay close enough attention to the release date, but I'd assume after Aug. since that's when Shadowman Vol 2, launches and that should be the start of the 3rd wave of TPB's.
