Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
I've been a fan of Patrick Zircher since he did New Warriors in the early/mid 90's. His work has improved so much since then, I'm amazed at how incredible it is in Shadowman.
I'd never seen Clayton Henry or Lee Garbett's work before, but they are both PHENOMINAL!!!!
Henry's work on A&A is perfection, and the Harbinger cover art he did is a showstopper. Have a new top favorite artist now!
The same goes for Lee Garbett! He worked into X-O seemlessly, and just had an incredible issue of Harbinger.
I get excited whenever I see these two artists work on anything!
What does everyone else think? And if this was already a post elsewhere, I apologize!

I agree about Patrick Zircher, his art in Shadowman is pretty amazing. Fits the book like a glove.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Big fan of Zircher, and his art has been phenomenal thus far.
Henry is also doing some of the best work of his career.
Garbett's fill ins have been top notch, as well.
I also think Garcia's work on Bloodshot has been consistently good and Evans, when he's on, can produce some really dynamic stuff.
Oh, and lets not forget Nord on XO or Luppachino's Geomancer!
Now we have Barry Kitson on the next Bloodshot arc after that dope Flamingo issue of Harbinger, and Hairsine's Planet Death Prelude!?!
Basically VALIANT artists have been straight killing it!

Indeed, and a nod to the colorists too. Ian Hannin and Brian Reber have respectively been doing an astounding job in Bloodshot and Shadowman since relaunch.

Reber is a colouring machine... I noticed that he coloured Shadowman, Bloodshot & XO this month!Stringer wrote:Indeed, and a nod to the colorists too. Ian Hannin and Brian Reber have respectively been doing an astounding job in Bloodshot and Shadowman since relaunch.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Good lord, nice catch man. I actually didn't notice that... after reading that I went to scrutinize his works on the aforementioned titles this month. His coloring in Bloodshot seemingly displays some signs of fatigue, as there are colors overlapping in small instances. But I think it's probably because he didn't get enough time to wrap up his work before submittion. Still looks good though, hopefully he doesn't overwork himself. But yes sir, guy's a total beast!grendeljd wrote:Reber is a colouring machine... I noticed that he coloured Shadowman, Bloodshot & XO this month!Stringer wrote:Indeed, and a nod to the colorists too. Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
I didn't color Bloodshot. Not sure if there was a credit mishap. I most likely did a cover for it though.

Your colours on Shadowman #3 were sublime, with Deadside and Darque you really nailed it in setting the mood of Zircher's fantastic art and the over all tone of the story in it's different parts.
As a fan I am very pleased with your work, keep it up and can't wait to see more

This is why I love this place so much. Fans and creators mixing together in fun, relaxed ways. That sort of personal connection has helped keep, and will continue to keep, the Valiant brand alive.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
I have been very impressed with VEI's stable of artists so far. I had been out of comics for quite a while so the only artists whose work I had seen previously was Nord and Zircher, although I have seen Stefano Gaudiano (sp?) do some work for Dark Horse as well (but he has only inked at VEI so far).
My top 5 list of favorite "new" artists would be:
1. Garcia
2. Garbett
3. Henry
4. Evans
5. Lupachino
For me, Garcia is dooking it out with Nord as overall favorite VEI artist.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
My bad, Brian - it was not a credit mishap, it was a 'my brain' mishap. You were listed as a cover colourist, not the interior. You're still a colouring machine, and absolutely killing it on Shadowman!!!Reber wrote:I didn't color Bloodshot. Not sure if there was a credit mishap. I most likely did a cover for it though.
I've been meaning to pester you on Twitter about how you are coloring that book. Does Patch send you his pages with layers intact, or are all those greyscales flattened? (I'm only assuming he does the greys on separate layers). I'm curious as I have started colouring my own b&w art digitally in the last year or two (take a peek at my deviantart link below if you feel so inclined

As others have said above, so very cool to see you pop in here!! Welcome!!

Impossible question!Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Every book hasn't been perfect, but there's not a single artist that I would replace.
Valiant IS these guys and gals... so it's impossible for me to name a favorite.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Patrick Zircher for me !

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Patrick's files are all flat. I have a bunch of little tricks to git rid of the grays that I developed while working with Ben Oliver on Batwing.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
I think that Cary Nord's art is going to take it to a "whole notha level" with Planet Death, the preview pages were amazing I can't wait to see them coloured.
As for newer guys I haven't heard of much, I think Lee Garbett was great on the Ninjak arc as was the latest Harbinger.
If you think about our favourite XO kills, Garbett drew most of them.

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Very cool, thanks for the response! I wondered how you dealt with the greys - I make mine into the equivalent of a transparent 'acetate sheet' layer and colour under them.Reber wrote:Patrick's files are all flat. Does Patrick know you use a bag of dirty tricks to get rid of all his hard work?

I was just looking at your art Josh. You have some ridiculous talent!

Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Well it doesn't get rid of his work it just does away with the grey. Grey is not a color you want mixing with everything because It'll cause the pages to look real muddy. It's like if you were mixing paints you wouldn't add grey to your colors cause it'll just make everything grey eventually. I only do it in select areas though. Scenes like the deadside I'll leave them alone. Lot of books that use grey tones have this problem.grendeljd wrote: Does Patrick know you use a bag of dirty tricks to get rid of all his hard work?![]()
I work over and under the lineart.
Re: Who is your favorite NEW Valiant Artist?
Hey lets not forget Lewis LaRosa kids! Hasn't done a ton but I really like what he's shelled out so far. He told me he is a teacher full-time so his output is like 2 pages a week or a cover. Anyways I love the Shadowman #0 cover he did, which I am now the proud owner of.
I don't notice coloring so much on comics, but I have to say that the Shadowman colors are spectacular. I love Zircher's art on that the best out of all the books, I only wish he drew by hand because there is no art to buy!!
