Anyone reading the current IDW TMNT ongoing? Thoughts?
I am wondering if I should give it a shot and pick up the TPBs. Was a huge Turtle fan in the 80s.

I don't know. I've been thinking about picking them up too. I think I'm gonna pick up the Legend of the foot Clan miniseries that starts Wednesday and see if it's any good.
My brother and I used to dig trenches in our side yard and then fill them up with water so that we could have sewers for our turtle toys back in the day.
Now my kids love the new show. What is old is new again!

I was a huge Turtle fan back in the day. I read both the new ongoing and the color classics. I enjoy both titles but I am not particularly excited about them.

Well, nothing beats the original Eastman & Laird's TMNT. It's one of my favourite series of all time (particularly the first 11 or 12 issues and the Return to New York arc).
That said, this current version is the next best thing from the Turtleverse, since the original comic.
It combines the martial arts aspects (more so in this version, me thinks) and general crazyness of the original run (we have a talking cat villain for starters).
One new thing is their colored bandanas a la animated series, but they start all in red.
I'm buying the trades, only because IDW doesnt's distribute the singles over here- which is a darn shame.

A great way to look at it is this:
It is a culmination of everything the turtles was and is. It combines aspects of the 80's cartoon, I.e the colored bananas, certain characters, more mutants then just the turtles, splinter, and leatherhead, krang, among others. As for the original comic, there's the darker, more action-y tone. Not as intense as back then, but cool nonetheless. It has wity references to the cartoon that will make you laugh. Imo it is a great book to new and old fans. New but not new origins. It's worth giving a shot. Whether tpb or single issue.

I picked up the Secret history of the foot clan and it's pretty decent. It shows how the foot came into existence, some of Shredder's origin, how the bad blood got started, and even Kraang's involvement in the foot's history.
Oh, and a bunch of pretty cool samurai and ninja fight scenes. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
