Todd's Valiant story

Post by Todd Luck »

Since I was a video game fan (about 12 years old at the time) I bought Super Mario #1 and gave all the Valiant Nintendo comics a chance. I got the first issue or two of the regulars and the first Ninentdo Comics System. Most weren't very good and the couple with stories I did like were either $10 an issue (Nintendo Comics System) or I never even knew they kept making them (Game Boy).

I saw the articles about Magnus in CSN and thought it sounded cool, a super hero in the furture who fights robots and all. From their past comics, I knew the art work would be amazing if nothing else. Then I bought Magnus #1 when it came out and was blown away. I had never read anything like it.

Magnus acted as my "gateway drug" into the other titles which I originally had no interest in getting...

The Invasion storyline got me reading Rai and got me curious enough about the alien's "First Strike" for me to buy that plotline in Solar, and I began to read that book too. The fight with the X-O armor in Solar intrigued me enough to buy X-O #2, which hooked me (I soon found issue 1). With Unity coming, I used it as excuse to stretch my parent's wallet and try out Shadowman #3 which hooked me. I bought all the Unity titles and that lead to me collecting Eternal Warrior.

Ofcourse shortly after that, Shooter "left" and that changed my buying patterns. EW, Shadowman, Magnus, and Rai became regulars with other titles being bought off and on or on a trail basis.

My best friend started to collect Valiants too at the time. He started with Rai and the FF #9 and it hooked him. He went on to collect X-O, some Shadowman, Magnus, and Ninjak (his favorite) too.

Both of us made it to Chaos Effect with only one or two books left and then quit in the few monthes that followed.
