Shadowman 1 !!!
Was lucky enough to get to pre-screen and read Shadowman 1 today. I have a few bits of news:
1. I'm sold. It's great.
2. Print run on the "blackout" pullbox is 5500. I have it pretty rock solid that exactly 5500 were shipped to Diamond.
3. DIAMOND DISTRIBUTED THE 50:1 VARIANTS BAGGED AND BOARDED!!! Huge, monster, worshipping kudos to Dino and his team for making this happen. Let's hope it continues.
4. The 20:1s were distributed normally, so we still have room for improvement.
5. My current opinion, which is almost always wrong, is that this will be VEIs first "real" hit. I'm predicting some secondary market movement on this one. And Jill Stein will be our next president.

I know the pullbox isn't necessarily 1:1, because retailers have to specify they want it, but do we know the ratios on the previous books?
If it is 1:1 then 5500 would seem pretty low considering the other launches, making the total only 11,000.

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
I am sure it will be less than 1:1, probably more like 1:2. I know my LCS, as an example, has never ordered any VEI comic except for the standard cover. I think I saw someone else post that their LCS does the same thing.BugsySig wrote:I know the pullbox isn't necessarily 1:1, because retailers have to specify they want it, but do we know the ratios on the previous books?

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
Yeah, I would assume some shops only order the regular, but I also remember many people saying their shops had equal numbers of both. I can't open the page with the print runs on it for some reason, though I think for the regular/pullbox it is just a guess anyway.SJS4 wrote:I am sure it will be less than 1:1, probably more like 1:2. I would hope it is at least 1:3 which would put the book over 20k. If its more like 1:5 that would be even better and put the book over 30k.
I do expect this issue to sell out like the other #1s. And sooner (like XO) rather than later (like Harbinger).

Yeah, I thought this one felt like a "crowd pleaser" much more than any other title so far. I think this will be many people's favorite title, and it will be a title that some non-Valiant fans will try out and enjoy.

That's pretty cool about the 1:50's being bagged and boarded. And yeah the 1:20's should get the same treatment. hopefully soon

No exact numbers provided but Patch Zircher on Twitter yesterday said "the shadowman love is pouring in (and so have the orders)!" For him to say that I reckon the orders must be very healthy!

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
I'm thinking shops are going to be caught with too few, so we will see. If the pullbox is at 5500, it probably means the whole run is about 15K, which will be too few for a sleeper hit. Diamond will have extras, we'll see how fast they disappear.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:No exact numbers provided but Patch Zircher on Twitter yesterday said "the shadowman love is pouring in (and so have the orders)!" Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
Great marketing for VEI! 5500 is a low print run for the pullbox. I thought they would make more.
I'm suprised the 1:50's are gong to be bagged and boarded. In my conversation with Dinesh a few weeks back, he said if the books were bagged and boarded, they would get damage too. He explaned that the books would move around the diamond box.. etc.
Cant wait for tomorrow!

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
Dino had that one wrong. They are much better off in bags/boards. Are they going to be perfect - no - but there will be far fewer problems. Maybe this was a test run for seeing if it makes a difference?
I got to see 5 and 3 of them were no better than NM off the press, but the other 2 were minty.

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
I was wondering about that also. I heard from somewhere that it cost $$ to bag and board books when its at Diamond. I made that suggestion before, but either Ed or Dino said its gonna be $ and still get damaged because its the way the books ship and move around. I'm just going from my memory so I could be wrong.
I do recall Dino saying one publisher had CGC 9.8s off the bat, but when the books arrived at the Stores, the slabs all arrived cracked. (I think they Were from Boom Studios)
IC ships all their pre orders w Bag and board. I wonder now if the will rebag these for inspection before shipping.

Perhaps Diamond did the bagging and boarding as penance for the X-O #6 screwup. But it's great news all around.

Cool thing about the 1:50 being pre-bagged & boarded - it also has a little sticker seal on the back flap... who's gonna be the first one to crack that?

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
I just picked up one regular and two blackout variants at Midtown. There seemed to be equal numbers of each on the shelf. Condition-wise on the blackouts, I was able to pick out two strong 9.4+ candidates, but that was after rejecting about 8 others for various dings, bends and spine nicks. The ulc was especially troublesome on most of the rejects.

Re: Shadowman 1 !!!
The numbers are much higher. Shadowman is launching very successfully. Thanks to all of you for being Valiant fans!ckb wrote:Dallow Spicer1 wrote:N
