Re: Here I Go Again
I saw an auction and did not have my credit card on my at the time..at the Comic Cons a 9.6 would go for a hair under 10k! When I saw that I was like PLEASE! No way I'm paying that..The lowest I saw 8K! Ebay sells them cheaper than this and if you look even deeper there are other sites that have them cheaper..thats how I found one for $2500. As much as I think Wolverine is watered down, I have to admit Hulk 181 is one of the most important and popular books in the Marvel U. I will also go out of the window on this and say that New Mutants 98 Deadpool is the NEXT book to take off like Hulk 181.

Ugh.
I know that New Mutants is important. But SO SO SO SO SO many copies of that book are out there.
My gut is saying that when that book goes up - bunches of people are going to sell it.
Me included.

Buy low, sell high..that's the way of the market! They killed half the trees on the planet when they made comics in the 90's. I would love another 9.8 of NM 98. That book is stronger that NM 87 Cable's 1st appearance.

I have sold a number of New Mutant 98 CGC 9.8s, and they mean nothing to me compared to my favorite - New Mutant 87.carter3175 wrote:Buy low, sell high..that's the way of the market! That McFarlane/Liefeld cover is one of the most memorable from the Copper Age, though the inside artwork is like looking at a five year old's first attempt at professional comic work. What were we all thinking when we got excited over Liefeld?

WOW are we so old now that Comics from when we were kids (80s-90s) are now "The Copper Age"? crazy!
I would've used the term "Tarnished Bronze" but that's just imo.

Tarnished it right on the money! The thing about that age is that it introduced a ton of new characters that are still strong today. From a investment perspective....umm

Yeah I will say "Character Wise" it was a New Renaissance, but not art/story wise, it was the dark ages. (Except for Valiant of course)

Vertigo was solid! Sandman was holding the line for DC. Valiant was new and unheard of...Image was too segmented and eye candy.

I would say there were quite a few independents from the Copper Age that still stand out for their artwork.MarrowMan wrote:Yeah I will say "Character Wise" it was a New Renaissance, but not art/story wise, it was the dark ages. (Except for Valiant of course)
- Dark Horse Presents
- Starslayer
- Nexus: One of the best!
- Grimjack
- Rocketeer: Top Dave Stevens - just try to.
- Predator mini series: These still are fantastic works of art and storyline.
- Terminator: NOT the Now series - that artwork is like Liefeld's little cousin. But the Dark Horse material stands out.

Re: Here I Go Again
Dave Stevens - Copper Age Overlord when it came to artwork.

Mark Schultz - Strong then, and making a comeback with the new Xenozoic Tales series.

James O'Barr, though he has ridden the Crow train for far too long.

Even Brian Bolland's Animal Man and Judge Dredd covers are still in demand today.

Copper Age books definitely had many losers - but also many winners.

Re: Here I Go Again
Books I just don't get the high figures they go for:
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turle: WTF?!
- Grendel: Nice to read, but not $500 for a 1st appearance.
- Boris the Bear: I have run across more fanatical collectors of this title, it blows me away.

Re: Here I Go Again
Ninja Turtles, the Original 84 series? I would think it had a pretty scarce print run, no? The stories were quite violent and mature oriented too, not like the Playmates or Nickelodeon versions.

True. I have never collected that book but I did flip through one that was on the shelf and it was violent and they looked different as well.
