Birth of the Defiant Universe
And he went unto the masses and said, "BEHOLD! My LCS claims to have copies of Birth of the Defiant Universe, " and there was much rejoicing.
The key here being copIES, plural. I spoke with the owner and once I described the book in detail (signature, white gloves, whitish cover) he said he remembered having some! I should know in a few day as to how many, and what condition, and whether there are still glove with it!
I was too excited to keep it to myself!

There's always a lot of confusion between "Birth of the Defiant Universe" and "Origin of the Defiant Universe" which are two separate books. The second book, the "Origin" is basically just a re-printing of the "Defiant Genesis" book. The "Defiant Genesis" book is also confusing because there are several variant editions. There is the one with the Comicfest logo on the cover, another without the Comicfest logo, and a third that has the Comicfest logo and also has a promo card sheet in the middle for Dark Dominion.
Good luck, I hope your local dealer does have multiples on the "Birth" book, that would be a heck of a find, whether they came with the gloves or not.
Again, the gloves were provided to handle the book, I guess because it was considered a "collector's item" even at release. The letter that accompanied the book said something to the effect of "Defiant...the gloves are OFF! (but wear these gloves while looking at this book)"

Thanks Brother J, I have the above book, but I never knew it was suppose to come with gloves.Brother J wrote: Again, the gloves were provided to handle the book, I guess because it was considered a "collector's item" even at release. That Shooter guy was a little creative.

Although, I wonder why the issue I bought didn't have the gloves or letter. I guess the previous owner saw no use for them. If someone has a scan of the complete deal, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Sorry gang, Good News/Bad news time.....
The good news is I got a call today saying he has a copy with the gloves and letter!!!!!!!
The bad news is that there is only one and he wants $20.
It's more than I intended to spend, but less than I could have.
I'll try to pick it up tomorrow or wednesday and post some pics!

Don't get me wrong! I'm pleased for myself! I just hate that I rose the level of anticipation for the boards and it didn't pan out. I know what it is like to get all excited just to have it all fall through.
Now, on to that Secret City Saga #1 Red edition....... anybody have a pic, so I at least know what I'm after??

And he went forth into yon comic shop on the day of the new comics. And on this day he did purchase a single copy of "Birth of the Defiant Universe." And with that copy came a pair of linen gloves, a watermarked (with the Defiant logo) scroll proclaiming "The gloves are off!" and the signature of the one called Shooter. On the day of the new comics, he did not purchase new comics, for he was a cheap money grubbing weasel and wanted only the aged book and assorted goodies. He did purchase it, and it was good (Technically it's NM, but you get the idea).....

And he did bring it home and post it that others may drool before their computer screens!
